and just came across a new Bahaus track - they used a surrealist composition method for this called exquisite corpse.

One of the most interesting 80s groups, I think.

I'm listening to the self-titled Fire Theft album. Over the years its become one of my favourites

American prayer

After 35 years I've just listened again to The Doors' American Prayer. It's as powerful to me now as it was in my youth - perhaps even more so. I stood alone in the kitchen, my eyes closed, and travelled back in time to when I was young and full of dreams, and hope for my future...

This was the first time I saw them I was at the table right in front of Peter he spent half the show looming over us

Definitely one of my favourite bands (and I love all the various offshoots)

Interesting, to hear more Daniel Ash than Peter Murphy in a song, but good stuff in any case, as long as David J is playing bass.

1986 was the summer of Bauhaus, as my roommate was a Goth who'd also been a DJ at his college's radio station, and he left campus with crates of import-only vinyl and a state of the art stereo to entertain us all. I could easily fall down the rabbit hole watching that band on YouTube, but instead I'll leave you one of my favorites:

After Peter Murphy left Bauhaus he teamed up with Mick Karn of Japan for the Dali's Car project. Karn was a genius player with a unique sound all his own, and coupled with Murphy's distinctive vocals, the album in a unique sonic experience.

It as a shame that didn’t last as a partnership. I loved Japan. And mick and Peter together was a dream pairing at the time. For me the year of bahaus would have been earlier . I bought Bella Lugosi the day it dropped on import , by 86 I would say my favourite album would have been the sisters coming along with this at the tail end of all the great batcave bands

Neil Young “No More”
Live version at SNL in 1989 is the best IMO.

On a Ravel binge. Here's a great one, the Piano Concerto in G Major with Ravel conducting(!) and his favorite pianist, Marguerite Long on piano:

By turns strange and dark, then lyrical and beautiful. Obviously not a great recording (1932 I think), but I still love this one the best. I have not heard a more beautiful performance on piano than this one. And of course, with Ravel conducting, you've got to assume this one is at least as faithful to his vision as any other, if not more so.
