Dirty lens article

I just found a fun article on the Internets: Dirty lens article

The guy experiments making his front lens a little dirty, more dirty, scratched and according to the pictures, probably even smashed. The lens can take a LOT of abuse on the front lens before it starts really showing in the pictures.

Don't try this at home.

Interesting read, just goes to show what it's possible to get away with.

this is quite interesting, and makes me feel much better about the rather dirty front element on my SMC Takumar 55. (it gets used a LOT). thanks for the link.

Ahhhh, awesome! I've been wondering the same thing myself because, let's face it, my lenses don't fall into the category of "pristine." Thanks for putting my mind at ease

this is why i dont bother with run of the mill "UV protection filters"

a tool is meant to be used, and there is a fine line between taking care of your tools and simply being crazy.

this just proves the unecessary paranoia

Maybe this should be put in the Beginners Q&A and linked whenever the weekly filter question comes up.
