Best cure for a cold?

I've had a cold for the last two days now (well it's more of a runny nose, sore throat, kind of hard to breathe at times kind of thing) and I've been taking the normal medicine for it, but it doesn't seem to be working. Does anyone have any magic tricks to make me feel better?

No special cures for a cold you simply have to let your body fight it I dont believe in using meds. Of course the occasional glass of scotch or brandy have been know to make me feel a little better as well.

Well, it's not as literal as some suggestions, but if I may suggest my 'Cold Assassin Soup.'

Since you're the one sick, quick and dirty version: take your canned chicken soup, dump as much garlic and as many different kinds of pepper and chilies in there as you can, add Italian spice mix and if possible some extra parsley.

It'll do ya. That's why we call it that.

Are you sure that won't just kill me? That's a lot of spices for a soup!

As my mother always said...

You can take some medicine and it will last a week... or you can take nothing and it will last 7 days...

It has to run its course. Try an antihistmine to dry your nose. Cepastat for the sore throat. Vicks under the nose at night to help breathe. And tylenol just because.

Safer than some other suggestions?

You may or may not *like* it, but it works. Also, force clear fluids. But I won't have to tell you that if you try this.

(And if you have actual garlic and a press, go to town. This really does help.)

(The Italian spices and/or parsley don't actually affect anything, but make the turbo-garlic and peppers more palatable, if you're tasting anything at this point anyway)

Well thank you for your suggestion!

I might have to go out and buy some spices today, I don't have any at the moment.

This is the opposite of what to do. Whiskey and presumably vodka *does* help, but only in *small* quantities. You'll be hurting yourself if you try more diuretics than that.

Then take your chances asking for medical advice from photographers.

Can't easily do this in the US (because you people think sauna == moderately warm, steamy room), but this is what worked for me back home:

Sit in sauna until nearly dead (we'd usually run around 95C = 203F, sometimes in the low 100s).

Drink big glass of whole milk with lots of whiskey in it.

Sleep for 15-20 hours (you will).

Never failed...
