If you live in the Bay Area...

And you use any form of bridge for your commute tomorrow morning, I feel sorry for you. The Bay Bridge will not be reopening until Wednesday morning.

There's something called Fastrak that reduces the fees on the Bay Bridge to $3 for commuters if they have it. Usually can pay monthly at a reduced rate too.

For the record, Fastrack reduces the bridge fare by only $1.

Hardly a bad or unusual price for what you get using that bridge, I have to say. Don't remember what it cost last time I went into NYC, but cutting out that much distance of city driving, using a rather-expensive-to-maintain piece of infrastructure doesn't seem too bad if you want to commute by car. You could pay tolls or spread it out in taxes and skip the toll booths, but stuff like that isn't free. Ask the dudes hanging off the thing to maintain it.

I didn't know that they gave you discount, I thought they just allow you to go pass the bridge without stopping. Still I would hate to pay $3 everyday. I know we need to pay to maintain the bridge just hate paying it.

BTW, they did open up in time for the 5am rush this morning.

Yes they suprized themselves and everyone else by opening it up this morning well ahead of schedule! Engineers rock.

Also for the record, the toll on the GGB is $6 for cars and $5 with fastrack.

Yeah, I saw the first cars cross it at about 6:30 this morning on the webcam, was definitely interesting to see that.

The Golden Gate Bridge is owned by it's own seperate agency, the Golden Gate Bridge Transportation and Highway District. So the tolls on the bridge are different than other bridges since it isn't maintained by Caltrans at all. I don't mind the higher price, though.
