Picture of the Universe

Picture of the Universe seen from the Atacama desert in Chili (hoped I spelled it right). By Serge Brunier. He captured it all with a D3 and a 50mm lens.

Here is another photo of the print they made it into. It is 12 by 6 meters. And at the website you can zoom into the shot to see stars, galaxies etc. It was supposed to take this guy 2 years for this project. It is supposed to be 1 billion pixels, and I think 100 million stars. The star count I'm not quite sure about. Anyways someone should count all of the stars.

That's pretty cool. But you may want to try counting the grains of sand on the beach. It would be easier.

Well, that's just mind-boggling.
Why bother counting them? - just appreciate that they're there.

Well, it's actually quite possible to both wonder and count. Actually, the more you know about stars, the better it gets.

The best thing about stars is, for any two of them you can see, odds are all this BS people think is important is just a moment, even to light, (from our relativistic rest-frame.) To light itself, of course, it's all the same moment. But it still do shine, don't they?

That's easy for you to say. I'm sure it is much easier from whatever rarefied atmosphere planet you are on.

The Jimmy Hoffa and the lemmings and the pseudo astrology stuff was all you. Guess the atmosphere on *your* world must be pretty cloudy indeed if that's how mine looks to you. Rarefied air is certainly good for stargazing, though. That's why they put observatories on mountains.

Yeah it's not like this administration is really going to fund space exploration.
