Ebay & PayPal disputes

Is anyone here knowledgable about disputes on Paypal?

I bought something on ebay which turned out to be not what was described. I entered a paypal dispute and I've been offered a full refund, which I've accepted.

The seller is asking me to end the dispute on paypal which I'd like to do except I havn't seen the money back yet. On my control panel it says:

QuoteQuote:
18 Sep. 2009 Refund From XXXXX Pending Details £51.00 GBP
17 Sep. 2009 Refund Offer From XXXXX Completed Details £51.00 GBP
In other words I've accepted the offer and the money is pending. According to the paypal help I should be looking to see "Refunded" - is this correct or, as the seller says, should I end the dispute now?

Many thanks

I just completed settling a disputed item on Ebay. I wouldn't (& didn't) do anything to drop the dispute until the money is confirmed as payed to my account. The party on the other end is unreasonable to expect anything else.
Did he send you the item you bought before he had your money in his hand? Of course not.

From what you're saying, the seller hasn't asked you to close the dispute.
Therefore don't do so until it is resolved from your point of view, and the seller should understand this.

edit: sorry, not paying attention... please disregard everything - other than the obvious: to wait for the money to be in your possession...

Do not, Do not end the dispute until the money is returned from their account & in to your own personal account.

PayPal is not known for doing the right thing. IMHO

Huh? Yes, see original post, the seller has asked me exactly that, to end the dispute, and I'm wondering if I should given the money hasn't been refunded yet

Seems to me that the concensus is that I do need to wait for the money to come back into the account ie status "refunded" before ending the dispute. That'd be the logical thing - I just wasn't sure if my not ending the dispute actually stops the money coming back in, ie how it works. I figure once you end the dispute everything's sorted so you end any sort of paypal protection as such - which I wouldn't want to do until the money is back in!

Leave it to Paypal to close the dispute. This they will do when they can confirm that you have received the refund. This will happen as part of the dispute resolution procedure. Is the seller refunding through Paypal or using some other funds tranfer procedure? However he pays you back they will expect the seller to be able to confirm the refund has occurred.

It's probably pending due to the way the seller paid you back. Paypal is probably just waiting for their funds to clear, however there is a chance they don't so I would wait to close the dispute until the funds have been confirmed, cleared, and added to your paypal balance.

Check your Paypal account, if it is in there you can transfer the funds to your nominated bank account. If it is not there then it has not been coughed up. Transfer from your Paypal account to your bank account should be 5 days maximum.
