Same thing happened in Sydney 2000 - traffic had been nightmarish for as long as I can remember there, but with the won bid came an efficient train and bus system for the Olympic village and the surrounding area, a few freeways, and a lot of money for the building industry.
Haven't been to Sydney for a while Ash? Efficient isn't a word I've heard anyone use to describe the public transport system in Sydney since at least September 2000.
Best thing to do if your city gets the Olympics is to go on a long holiday somewhere else.
