Astral Photo OP / Meteor Showers Peak Tonight

According to Space.com The Orionid Meteor Showers will peak tonight between 1AM and 6 AM EST. Might be a good time time grab a lawn chair and a tripod!

You beat me to it.

I did like the way someone worded it by suggesting that it is always best to try to catch meteor showers in the predawn stages as this is the point at which the earth is falling away from the shower of debris. The comparison was likened to driving in a car during rain and looking out the front window compared with looking out the back window.

My children are soon to be four and the other two and I would love for them to understand and marvel at a short drive out of the city's lights in the very early morning to catch a display of "shooting stars". I just don't know. I know there will hopefully be plenty of opportunities when they are a little older. Pop some corn. Take a blanket. "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", "Echoes" and "Cygnus X-1" playing. They should grow to resent the hell out of me if I force that upon them.
