A 42' flat panel LED TV. We thought we should enter the 19th century for Christmas. Our old TV has a round BW screen and a decal of a dog looking in a megaphone and was made by Edison. That's about it. I couldn't pass on the sale prices offered and we have been thinking about it for the last two years.

The local small newspaper said already that the retailers had a good up tick in sales here. The significant other said there were lots of mall shoppers but not so many packages and bags leaving. Just unscientific observations. I wouldn't know as I don't do mall.

Peace and I pray your credit card balance is zero January 1st.

I'm in the protest-the-commercialism crowd, myself.

We did accidentally buy a couple of things from a vintage clothing store in a near-deserted town center, though. But I guess that doesn't count.

We might actually make a little tradition of it: while everyone's at the malls and strip malls and big boxes, we can just slip into the town center and avoid it all. Support local business and all.

I bought nothing. Even my wife and daughter managed to resist the sales.

I drive right by the Valley Stream (Long Island) Walmart every morning after work.
That's where an employee was trampled to death on Black Friday one year ago.

My wife and I invested in our health. Picked up an $800 NordicTrack Elliptical Machine for $399 at the Sears Black Friday sale. Wish me luck!

Well I was a little frustrated to find my wife coming home from early morning Black Friday sales with packages and sacks with more clothes and shoes for herself.
Now she makes all the money in the family and is smart enough to understand our finances and all and I know I mentioned to her at least once that we should curtail our spending until spring.
We got ourselves a new tv and digital picture frame but I was disappointed to see her come home with another pair of boots and more sweaters when she knows I want us to give to charities and save for vacation. Makes me become really torn between saving and donating or getting a new camera. I tell ya, I was really ready to spend $400 today if I had seen a refurbished K20 somewhere. I know she has spent that much on clothes and shoes this past three months. Ahhhh!
But it is not like she would not allow me to buy another camera. She would be the first to say "Get it if you want one."

I dunno, Matt. If your wife's braving 'Black Friday' to get herself a pair of decent shoes, I have little sympathy for you trumpeting your 'charitable preferences.'

I got lucky and parlayed a pawnshop purchase into having a K20 myself, and even once I get gear in order, I *still* have to get together something better than the rags I wear to take on any jobs.

I'm kinda not seeing it, there.

Well I just bought myself a Zune HD with a set of full body screen protectors for 220. I guess now I have something to do during my break time in school.

I bought a DA 40mm from Adorama on grey Thursday (pre-black Friday), and a laptop on worn-out Saturday. All bought from the comfort of my home office. I don't do the 4:00 am stuff.

I did buy a few things but nothing I set out to get intentionally. I went out late friday afternoon to get some groceries and most of Walmarts black friday specials still there. I picked up a Western Digital 1 TB My Book for $78, a couple of new release DVD Movies for $5, and a pair of Wragler jeans for $9. I also picked up a pair of crampons at EMS for $48.

I don't remember buying anything. Oh wait, maybe a winter coat for youngest may have been on Friday.

I did send a package of goodies to my online camera buddy: several rolls of film, a Series 6 lens shade for one of his cams, a TLR Bay 1 hood for his Yashica, a Vivitar t4 105 mm lens, and a Vivitar 200/3.2 for his Konica. He was pleased.
