That's a shame, man. Not that there aren't tons from decades earlier worth devoting your time to.
I don't feel that I've missed anything, other than being totally clueless when I hear the names of movies and actors.

If I had time to dedicate to watching movies, I would have no real objection to watching new movies. I just don't have the time to watch movies. (I wonder if a correlation could be established between people with long lists of movies they've watched and people who complain they don't have time to go out and take pictures.)

I'm sure there are infinite reasons people would use for not having time to go out and take pictures, and I doubt watching movies is the main one for many of them.

I was just trying to work out the last time I went to a cinema to watch a movie and it was December 1990. I guess I'm disqualified Movies I've seen on TV? Not many. I usually get bored with them quite quickly and wander off to do something else. Movies I have watched more than once and will watch again?

Fargo. The first time I watched it was on 30 November 1997 when it was 40C/104F outside. The temp inside the house dropped 10 degrees in the first few minutes of the film

The Castle. I've watched it about 5 or 6 times and will watch it again. I think this was Eric Bana's first film.

I'm sure there are others.

Richard.

One I saw recently:

The Cat Piano. Aussie animation by the People's Republic of Animation. Make sure you watch it in high def and full screen. Stunning. Narrated by Nick Cave.

Movies make me sleepy.
I call them 'Ten Dollar Naps'.
My wife refuses to accompany me to theaters as my snoring makes it hard to hear the movie dialog.

I did like that porno film that came out a few years back, 'Shaving Ryan's Privates.'

Oops, wait; that's not right. That was the remake.

I mean "Saving Private Ryan'.

Anything with 'Harry Potter' in the title is a sure cure for insomnia. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Awesome list, deadwolfbones! All About Lily Chou-Chou, Nobody Knows and Taste of Tea are among my top ~10!

I recommend Sion Sono's new 4-hour epic, Love Exposure (2009)

Two more

Two of my favorite films of the past decade are also among my all-time favorites:

Inside Man (2006)
Signs (2002).

These movies made in the last decade I rated a 10 on IMDB:

2046 (2004) (Hong Kong)
Amores perros (2000) (Love's a dog) (Mexico)
Cidade de Deus (2002) (City of God) (Brazil)
Der Untergang (2004) (The Downfall) (Germany)
Good Bye Lenin! (2003) (Germany)
La meglio gioventů (2003) (Best of Youth) (Italy)
Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001) (Amelie) (France)
Lilja 4-ever (2002) (Sweden)
Los lunes al sol (2002) (Mondays in the Sun) (Spain)
Lost in Translation (2003) (USA)
Mar adentro (2004/I) (The Sea Inside) (Spain)
Memento (2000) (USA)
Se, jie (2007) (Lust, Caution) (China/Taiwan)
The Constant Gardener (2005) (USA)

La Meglio Gioventů is easily my favourite movie. Everyone I've shown it thought it was brilliant, from my mother to my friends: La meglio gioventù (2003) If you're into movies, I really suggest you give it a try: Amazon.com: The Best of Youth: Luigi Lo Cascio, Alessio Boni, Jasmine Trinca, Adriana Asti, Sonia Bergamasco, Fabrizio Gifuni, Maya Sansa, Valentina Carnelutti, Andrea Tidona, Lidia Vitale, Claudio Gioč, Paolo Bonanni, Roberto Forza, Marco Tullio Gio

I've been meaning to see this--it's on every professional critic's top whatever list--but somehow I haven't gotten around to it.

Don't be put off by the 6 hour running time. It's long, but you can easily see it in two or three sittings and the effect of the movie will not be any less for it. It was actually meant as a 4-part miniseries, so there are some moments in the movie that make sense to pause.

But in any case, go see it.

Gentle bump.

Saw Flame & Citron the other day... totally excellent. Invictus, not so much.

Plan to see Red Cliff soon.

I also doubt it.

That's why I wondered if there was any sort of correlation....not necessarily a cause-n-effect relationship. (I do make efforts to write precisely what I mean most of the time).

That about the movies and picture taking was just an idle thought. The correlation I would really like to see some info on is between people who say they don't like the 4:3 aspect ratio (from the four-thirds cameras, of course) and those who froth at the mouth wanting Pentax to release a digital 645.
