You are so right Ratlady........." It's one reason for black cameras: shiny and metallic things attract attention: thus can distract subjects and attract notice. That's why we wear jewelry."

This is the very reason I prefer my black 44 Mag for Street Shooting...if you look too "flashy" someone will make a grab and you will have to waste them....and a cartridge too! It can spoil your day, I guarantee!

You are in the USA. Your society actively encourages you to carry a gun.
Get a gun, learn how to use it, and if someone comes at you, cap them.
Problem solved.

Wow! We share the same philosophy on something Wheatfield, it must be a first!

Reminds me of a converstaion I had some years back in the US.
We were having lunch in Denver and the restaurant overlooked a busy road. The traffic was scooting along pretty well prompting me to make a comment about the speed limit...or lack of...and that in Australia we would have a speed camera or three along a stretch of road like this, making a great revenue.
Our host (a local from Denver) shook his head and siad speed cameras would never work here.

I asked why.

He replied that there would be a gun in "every" glove compartment driving past us and that the speed camera would last about 2 minutes before it got shot!!

OK.

People from the country watch too much TV and are convinced that any time they go to the 'big city' they're going to be the victim of a violent crime, unless perhaps they bring some oversized gun that'll probably deafen them if they fire it without ear protection.

People do live there, yaknow. Minneapolis isn't exactly notorious for 'mean streets,' either. (Maybe that's why, as I observed, the people who want to be gangsters look like they're trying *way* too hard. Which is actually something that inspires me to steer clear, you never know what someone with a pose like that might be trying to prove.)

Nice stereotype!

You obviously know NOTHING about the United States of America. If you did you would realize that every different state, county, city, or even small town is filled with people with greatly differing points of view on everything, including firearms. If I was a betting man I'd guess that Canada was quite similar in that regard, just like most other countries in the world.

'If you did you would realize that every different state, county, city, or even small town is filled with people with greatly differing points of view on everything, including firearms.'

Gun carry laws differ from city, county, and state. NY for instance is no hand gun ownership jurisdiction I believe. Other places (a few) advocate gun owership and a very few advocate visable carry permits.

The real danger of course are our law ignoring liberal friends that the jails are full of. In your travels you are very safe at an NRA meeting, but not so safe in Obama Town.

The solution would be to disarm all liberals. That should be easy for the liberal gov't to do right?

I own no guns, don't plan too or am I an NRA member but am quite comfortable around them as long as I am not with liberals. Independants, Libertarians, Episcopals and Repubs are fine.

The assailant chooses:

The time
The place
The method
(of attack).

Encourage them to choose:
Someone else.

Damn Brit is spot on. Don't be a victim.

Armed or unarmed makes no difference. If an armed assailant gets the jump on you the best you can hope for is to take them with you.

Be confident, be sure of yourself and your surroundings. Don't get tunnel vision.

This is the advice we give our protectees (I'm an Executive Protection Specialist).

Well, you are wise there.....in a group of those "gun toting liberals" you would quickly end up as target practice. Very unlike your boy Dickie that is a responsible gun toter and only shoots lawyers. Or maybe your boy that murdered the abortion Doctor....in a Church....you real proud of his gunmanship, are you? I'm glad you don't own a gun, and hope you won't ever get one, if and when you grow up.
Regards

Thanks you guys, lots of good advice. I will try to be confident. That is something I am not very good at lol, I tend to lack confidence in a lot of things in life =/ For the gun, maybe I should carry a BB gun around? =P

No, that will cause more trouble than it is worth.

While being alert is important, it is also a good idea to keep in mind that 99.9% of people are just as innocent as you are. The truth is most of them probably couldn't care less about you!

Just check the party affiliations in your local jails if you doubt that liberals are no danger to you. It's a matter of tracking the odds as to where you will more likely get mugged or worse. Maybe just ask someone in law enforcement. That would be thier business. Reality is a bitch ain't she?

I don't do church and I don't know your Dickie and do not advocate murder/life taking unless it's a due course death penalty.

Some stats on Obama Town:

You may care to check out this site which compares a good number of US liberal holy sites and bastions to Baghdad. Go ahead and discount it by 50% if you want too.

LOL, a lot of this thread reads like the script for a bad Clint Eastwood movie.
