Short film: old cameras, modern architecture, all fake

Just a diversion for anyone who wants their mind blown by what one guy can do with a computer and some 3D software.

Seriously. Full screen it. As photographers there is much to appreciate...

...

And when you're done and have collected your brain bits, check this "making of" video out:

I've been working in the 3D industry for decades, and this is just unbelievably good work.

wow pretty impressive. although the short clips help avoid having viewers nitpick the images to find where they are unreal.

what kind of computing power do you need to do this?

More power than I have (8 Xeons), or a boatload of patience. There are lots of tricks one could do in compositing/ grading/ editing - but the basic details of realistic lighting and shallow DOF (he even changed the # of blades in the aperture based on the camera!) is a killer to simulate. A K-x or K-7 would've been much more efficient!

That was far out. I didn't see the CGI effect at all.

No doubt it is a masterpiece.....but being just plain and simple minded Rupert.....I kept wanting to see a Squirrel in there somewhere......at least one.
