In grade eight, selling a kid a condom for $4 so that he could lose his virginity to a grade twelve girl.

I know, I know. That's probably morally wrong - I should've asked for more.

But I found it at the bus station, so I was happy with what I got.

My Grand Father rowing me up and down a river at a very young age in a boat named Binky.
Summers spent on my first boat.
A 68' Firebird that I bought with money I earned at 17 years of age.
A girl named Andrea who spent alot of time with me in the 68' Firebird.
Touring Europe.
The races at Watkins Glen.
Walking the beach with a surf casting rod in Boca Raton FL before they painted the whole damn town pink.
Returning to and finnishing college on my own.
Bringing a stolen Christmas tree to a friend who really loved Christmas but was having a bad time that year. (walking down US Highway 1 with a stolen Christmas tree over my sholder at 2.00AM).
My first open water scuba dive.
My first Captains License.
Marlin fishing in Venezuela.
My first house.
Settling down and having my kids(I sure hope none of them will be as much of a wild thing as I was)!
The years of the "Musketeers"-time spent with two very special friends who are no longer with us (damn now I'm all teary eyed, I'll have to have a drink in their honor tonight).

Thanks Ratmagiclady. I missed you too. Life kind of turned into a roller coaster last July - even my K-7 has been sitting unused since I got it 7-8 months ago (though I'm about to change that). Things are sort of getting back to normal now...

Not a bad time to have explored, though.

I suppose the 80's are pretty easy to romanticize, too [...]
Yeah, the further in the past it becomes, the easier it is to romanticize. I have lots of good memories of weekend parties in various farmers' fields. I had a custom van and was a member of a van club - we would rent a field somewhere and rally with a bunch of other clubs - sometimes hundreds of vans camped out together - live bands, campfires, alcohol and other substances, adult games, contests, you name it. Try and do something like that today, and it would get shut down before it started. Back then, local law enforcement would look the other way as long as we stayed parked and didn't destroy the land.

Wow some great memories ..... ok looking back in the recesses of my mind ....

My First 3 speed bicyle (Fastback 100) - got it for Christmas - we were not poor but we never usually had enough money for gifts like this (it was $100 or so !) - I will never forget the feeling seeing that under the tree and waiting for spring ....

Sports in general have always played a big part in my life (even now although it's as much social at this point as competive) - Piitching in little league , middle linebacker in football (Norht American) and basketball in High School which I continued to play until a couple of years ago as my knees can no longer take the grind.

Fishing in the mountain streams in Nova Scotia for brook trout and then bring them back to Grandma's house to fry up for lunch.

My first car , unlike Jer and his Mustang (I wish!) mine my was a 1963 Pontiac Laurentian , three in the tree. Big ole boat (4 man trunk!) which initiated my love for big cars that remains today. Dad did have a 1969 GTO when I was 15 which I tought would be my car but he wisely sold it

As a kid family vacations to New England in the spring. It was always exciting going to the US and seeing family. Always remembering Mon and Dad saying to be quiet when we got the boarder on what we had to declare

My first time sking - I knew nothing and almost forgot to jump off the chair lift when it was time (as I noticed all the empty chairs , I clued in) - wiped out of course.

Leaving home (some 3000 miles) with $300 in my pocket and 'making it'.

Going out on my own (buisness) a huge risk at the time , but one that I do not regret.

Getting very close to my Mom in her last few months. We had some great talks about everything.

Vacations - from the first time to Disneyland when the kids were young, to the one comming up in a month. Blessed that we can do these things.

The glass is indeed half full - damn near all full when you consider what others have to go through.

Edit - One more special memory. My Dad was in the Air force and Mom did not work. So while we were fine financially we never had much extra. I left home in 1979,my family was still in Nova Scotia. In 1982 I flew home for Christmas and I had bought Mom and Dad a 4 day Vegas Vacation (those were my Rig Pig days ... Single and lots of $$$ to piss away ha-ha). It was a small token of my appreciation for the many sacrifices they made. Vegas was a dream for my Mom at the time. That was pretty cool seeing her face ....

Heheh, it reminds me when *I* bolted, Had to race to the bank, clear out what little was in my account before the 'rents got to it (Joint account couldn't be avoided) ...Pulling away in my old car, someone's borrowed guitar in the back seat (I'd been trying to learn, couldn't leave that behind.) Thought went through my head, "Oh, spirits, looky this: out of the frying pan and into the (f'n) Bon Jovi video..."

Was a good Moment, anyway.

My grandson and I took a trip to Cabo to meet his Dad flying in from Ct. and do some sport fishing. We had a great time and in packing up I see he had about 75
Mexican condoms he is stashing in his duffle, Grandpa's curiosity was way up and I ask WTH all that is about. He said he is the class source for them and has a good business going with candy bars and condoms. I couldn't help laughing and still do because my mind was thinking water bombs.

Aha, the real reason conservatives don't want condoms and sex ed in schools: they need the black market to finance their musclecars!

(It's funny, because in high school, I was often the designated buyer of such things, due, I guess, to not being embarrassed about such things. Never thought to cash in, though. )

*picture of 80's RML finding a bunch of boys furtively daring each other to buy their porn, passing the money around, RML is like 'Give me that,' ...striding into store, saying in clear voice to kid at counter, 'Good afternoon. I'd like several issues of your finest pornography.' *

Being a virgin
Trips to the beach then watching breasts pop out when the waves hit, while still being a virgin

Big letdown, somehow? Told those boys the peeping wouldn't do them any kindness.

This brings back a hilarious moment:

Scene: Me sitting on beach with a mate watching our wives & kids play in the surf, when his wife gets hit by a big wave and dis-appears in a tangle of arms & legs...she re-emerges in waist deep water , wiping the salt water from her eyes.... with her top hanging around her waist, in all her glory, and continues walking out of the water :ugh:.

Me (to mate): err....you gonna tell her.
Mate: Nuh, she'll work it out soon enough...

...which she did ...and then proceeded berate the hell out of both of us!!! much to the amusement of other beach goers....and never at any time replacing the missing top while she paid us out.

I have never laughed so hard in my life, it was just one of those out of control moments.

The 80s were by far the best decade of my life (born in '55). Lot's of good friends; we had some great times. My career was going well for what I wanted and needed at the time. Not that times are bad now, but I just seemed to have more fun back then.
