lithos, yours have cracked me up.

Some about experience and results:

Learning from your own experience can be expensive; it's cheaper to learn from others.
It's better to wear out than to go rusty.
Bad goods and services are never cheap enough.
If time is money, then we're all living above our incomes.

And these on relationships, communication, life and money:

Better to debate an important matter without settling it than to settle it without debate.

The right word and almost the right word are as different as lightning and the lightning bug.

Don't show your wounded finger - everything will knock up against it.

Cynics are only happy in making the world as barren for others as they made it for themselves.

It's easier to produce two volumes of philosophical writing than to put one principle to practice.

Civilisation is a limitless multiplication of unnecessary necessities.

The best condition in life is not to be so rich as to be envied nor so poor as to be damned.

Nobody works as hard for his money as the person who marries it.

A sure way to get rid of people is to tell them something for their own good.

The greater part of mankind has no other reason for its opinions than that they are in fashion.

"It is a sure work of folly and want of breeding to think that we shall be contemptible if we do not take every means to injure the first enemies we meet: for we say a man is perceived to be contemptible by his incapacity to do harm: whereas, really, it is his incapacity to do good."

Hell Rupert....how long IS that piece of string!

Where the hell does one start...

OK..."Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"....was one that my Dad used to like saying, and if we could all start over and practice that, then the world might be a very different place.

..."To not plan, is to plan to fail"...I have picked up from somewhere and believe in.

..."Dont shit in your own nest"...I always thought was sensible advice.

...but there is one I love (& contradicts my dad's) "dont get mad....just get even"

...and then there is the 'ol aussie curse on someone you didn't like..."may your chooks turn into emus and kick your chookhouse down"

and thats just for starters.

That's one that gets turned around all kinds of backwards on a routine basis, though, something like, "If I were some kind of damned Heathen like you, I'd *appreciate* someone doing something like this to me to save me from a Hell someone told me you'd go to"

As for how people want to be treated, I got one word of wisdom.

Ask.

Yaknow, if we did that, it'd probably beat the crap out of cannoli. But they wouldn't do it till we passed it widdershins so as not to be 'going left.' (Yes, this would be backwards, but what can you do.)

(Actually, come to think of it, when righties get baked, they just do that paranoid thing, don't they?

And true to form you've screwed this thread with sex, politics, religion and your typical bashing. But it's not your attitude.

Though many have tried, no one has ever yet explained away the decisive fact that science, which can do so much, cannot decide what WE ought to do.
Joseph Wood Krutch

Once we have solved all the problems of Philosophy and Science we will
still be left with the problem of Life.

My version: Do unto others before they do it to you.
