An all-white, all-American basketball league

Well, this doesn't seem like a very good idea...

Basketball league for white Americans targets Augusta 011910 - The Augusta Chronicle

Yeah, if you hear how these people talk, that's over the line from 'bad idea' to 'Beam Me The F outta Here, Scotty!'

As many of you know we have the NAACP, No whites, We have the United Negro College Fund, no whites, We have Miss Black America, no whites, We have Quanza, no whites, so now when someone describes the new league for Whites, everyone calls this person a racist!!!! though I feel the result will cause a stir as everyone see's this as a slap to the Non-white majority, I feel this person has a right to promote this. Gee wonder if someone started the Augusta Hispanic soccer league would this raise the same Racist remarks.. Of course not, because repressed folks are the only ones who can do this..
thought this was an interesting comment on the linked page.

Although I don't watch hockey (or basketball) I know several people who'd tune into an All Black hockey game..... if the caliber of hockey was at least on par with the NHL.
It seems that so many people are tired of the high salaries, etc

to be a good hockey player you have to be on skates before you can even talk, have your parents constantly buy updated equipment while you are growing, pay for all your tournament fees, drive you around, all the way into your late teens (assuming you even get a job then)

unlike basket ball where you can pretty much learn to play on your own, in almost any environment.. you dont even need a net sometimes, a garbage bin on a step ladder does the trick..

guess it just goes to show you the true economical break down of our society.. still...

There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, Native Americans, etc.

...And then there are just -

Americans.

You have the United Negro College Fund.

You have Martin Luther King Day.

You have Black History Month.

You have Cesar Chavez Day.

You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi.

You Have Yom Hashoah.

You have the NAACP.

And you have BET.

If we had WET

(White Entertainment Television)

... We'd be racists.

If we had a White Pride Day

... You would call us racists.

If we had White History Month

... We'd be racists.

If we had any organization for only whites to "advance" OUR lives .

... We'd be racists.

We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce,

and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce.

Wonder who pays for that?

If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships

... You know we'd be racists.

There are over 60 openly-proclaimed Black-only Colleges in the US, yet if there were "White-only Colleges"

... THAT would be a racist college.

In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights.

If we marched for our race and rights,

... You would call us racists.

You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it.

But when we announce our white pride

... You call us racists.

You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer who is running from the LAW and posing a threat to ALL of society

... You call him a racist.

I am proud.

... But, you call me a racist.

Why is it that only

whites

can be racists?

I don't know the answer to that George.....I think we are all racist to some extent, just like we are Pentaxians or Canonites or Nikonians. We just tend to choose up "our kind".....like those birds of a feather. How it got this twisted is a long and twisted story in itself....one still unfolding, but we do seem to be moving ahead. My Grandchildren are about as color blind as is possible...and so are their friends...of color. It starts early in life....my Dolly sees no one of color, and unless someone tells her different, chances are she never will.....even in her lily whiteness.
Regards!

The only thing is, this 'league's' agenda *really is racist.*

Sort of an 'affirmative action' thing for non-African-American-really-tall-guy roundball players, would almost make sense, until you realize it'd be saner to just skip the race thing and have height classes like boxing does. Or raise the *basket,* cause the game wasn't designed for a league full of people who can dunk on tiptoes.

But it's not that, is it? It's *non-immigrant-whites* only, what these folks are doing.

I got a friend who's seven feet tall. White guy. Dresses kind of hippie. People assume he plays basketball every day of his life.

There's that NBA guy from China (Yao Ming?) that was in all the commercials a couple of years ago. Also not-black. Also happens to be something like better than seven feet *tall.*

The way the game goes in the NBA isn't about race. It's cause they can generally have the like three hundred tallest basketball players in the country. A lot of them are going to be black, cause, quite frankly, 'tall and lean' isn't exactly much of a survival advantage in places where you live by keeping your extremities close to your core temperature.

Nowadays, of course, all these 'role models' are on steroids, anyway, and all the kids have been getting Bovine Growth Hormone, like it or not, for years. Still, in basketball, height is an advantage, one that the professional business of pro sports won't give up.

If they wanted to be about 'technical basketball,' (backhanded way of saying black people are stupid) they wouldn't have made it about *race or immigrant status.* They'd have made it about *height.*

Yeah, it's not so much the all-white thing (though it's undeniably problematic to create an explicitly all-white professional organization post-civil rights movement) as it is the way he's couching it, i.e. in blanket (racist) statements like:

QuoteQuote:
"Here's a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like."
(Players "of color" don't play according to the fundamentals of the game.)

QuoteQuote:
"Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?" he said. "That's the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction."
(Players "of color" are unable to control themselves and will probably attack you in the stands.)

QuoteQuote:
"The white game of basketball, which is essentially a fundamental game, works."
Etcetera.

Sounds very wierd. No doubt they will be short on court talent. But hey, out here there are exclusive latino soccer clubs and all that. Too bad some like to stay exclusive.
During the times of heavy racial mixing quotas and mandates, the NBA was way light on short bald Asian players. I believe they still are. I don't think I would care to hang with a good percentage of all color NBA people myself. Not on a racial basis but character and what they do off time.
I'm not sure about this but I think Obama would have to plead his case very hard on racial mix for entry into the exclusive Black Caucus/Black Socialist Union annex of the DNC. He thinks like them but represents way to many other races which won't fly with them. Besides he speaks like Colin Powell who is claimed to be Uncle Tom reincarnated. Maybe the DNC will concider kicking the Black Caucus out for racial bias. (LOL)

Congrats to pro golf and the Tiger Woods success in mastering the old whitie sport. Though the exclusive Augusta National still excludes women (of all sizes shapes, persuasians and colors). Pro tennis has been mixed for many years too.

'Dateline: MIYAZAKI, Japan Tiger Woods said Tuesday he hasn't changed his mind about playing at the all-male Augusta National Golf Club despite a New York Times editorial calling on him to skip the Masters as a gesture against sexism.
"As I've said before, everyone is entitled to their own opinion," said Woods, who is Japan for this week's Dunlop Phoenix golf tournament.
"I think there should be women members," said Woods. "But it's not up to me. I don't have voting rights, I'm just an honorary member."
The New York Times suggested in an editorial Monday that Woods skip the Masters next year because of the all-male membership at Augusta ... '

To bad the only qualifications for any entry is simply skill, talent and will.

I guess you have to make up your own mind about these things.
