You can say that again. I've prepared my own taxes for 25 years, I read the tax booklets cover to cover every year, I took accounting classes while in school, and I'm still convinced I leave a little money on the table each year because of missed deductions. Automobile mileage for trips to receive health care is deductible. Aspirin, antacids and vitamins are deductible as medical expenses. I installed a new storm door on my house last year and there is a process for determining if part or all of the purchase price and a reasonable compensation for my work installing it are deductible. It's crazy.

Good for a laugh is the fact the worksheet in the front of the 1040 booklet that is used to determine if a person must file a 1040 form takes a good 15 to 20 minutes to complete. No one could make this stuff up on their own.

The medical stuff is deductible only after a certain percentage of income however. Last year was a good year for me in that respect. Got to deduct over 30 large.
