Maybe try a multi- grain bread as the toast stabilizers. Perhaps a more dense material as tail fins would provide more control.
And I thought using sausage as a nose cone was proved incorrect several years ago. I have been using strawberries with limited success.
My next design involves using Brach's Circus Peanuts candy and bananas to spot the rocket easier.

Otis made a nice rocket once by putting a Roman Candle up a Possum's ass.....I think it was the last 4th of July......Squirrels still talk about the remnants they find in the nearby trees.
