Originally posted by Blue Actually, Ed and I are referring to the numerous times where the actual moving of a thread was questionable to begin with. The above example I posted is what I'm referring to. The guy put it in GT, someone moved it to film, then it got moved to Off Brand and the OP ended up with a chicken infraction. That is BS no matter how you cut it.
Ok, I'm only going to post once in this particular thread and that's in reference to this particular example.
I'm the one that moved it to the film forum and I'll admit it was a mistake because I was using the film aspect as a reference instead of focusing on the polaroid aspect. I will however stand by the decision to move it in the first place because GT isn't designated as a photography related forum. The reasons behind moving it were purely for keeping the forum tidy. Because of the nature of the thread, I didn't issue an infraction because I didn't consider it an unthinking placement and no foul was committed.
I can't remember who made the subsequent move and issued the infraction but that is no longer relevant. If Clicker wants to instigate an appeal because this was a mistake then that will be come apparent when it is looked at.
The point is, certain threads because of their subject matter aren't an easy fit, the OP often realises that when the thread is started and the moderator often has trouble placing it but is blinded to an extent by the fact that it is in the wrong place to start with.
Sorry to be long winded about this but I think this is an important area where the members can help administration correct things. The format of the forum is somewhat organic and in cases where a member is unsure of where to post or, doesn't think there is a right place to post it, there's no harm in hitting the
Contact a Moderator button and explaining. The net result of an action like that is the identification of blind spots and the chance to eliminate them. That in turn makes the forum that much easier to navigate for everyone and no infraction (rightly or wrongly) gets issued. Everyone wins.
To respond to an earlier comment about me being the least tactful of the moderators, sorry, if that's an impression someone has, that's the impression they have. It's worth noting though that I was the most active moderator (not a boast, the statistics reflect that) so any impression could easily be skewed simply by my visibility. I also admit that I was a misplaced thread nazi but the majority of threads that I moved were moved without infractions given and, more often than not, a polite request to be more careful either in the thread or via PM. Yes, occasionally I've made mistakes and also I've got into it with people. Those who have had a lot of dealings with me know that's the way I am but they also know that if I turn out to be wrong, I will fess up to it. More than once, I've issued a public apology in an effort to smooth things over. I haven't said all this to defend myself BTW because I don't feel that there is anything to defend. Just putting the record straight.
Just to give an example of what I'm talking about.
I'm responding to Blue's post yet he and I don't get on, we butted heads too often in the political threads so now we keep out of each others way but I know that, apart from that, we do respect each other. Blue even wished me well in the other thread and I hereby thank him for that.
