If you could sing...

...Who would you sing like?

I was just being like 'Darn, if I could sing like Tanya Donnelly, I'd be dangerous or something.'

I'd probably be better off going for Joan Jett.

If I could sing I would want to be able to sing like William Warfield.

I sing like myself. Play guitar like myself, too. It's so much easier that way.

CV: In my wasted youth I was occasionally a busker on street corners and pubs etc in San Francisco and New York. I'd do some songs people knew and some nobody knew, all with my own take on the sound. Sounding like someone else is just so... derivative.
My sweetheart's the mule in the mine
Down below, where the sun never shine
And all day I just si-it
And I chew and I spi-it
All over my sweetheart's behine

The question doesn't apply to people who can actually say that. I can sing like me, too. Mostly.

Oh, so I'm not supposed to sound like myself? OK then, I'll take the 60s Tims: Tim Hardin, Tim Buckley, Tiny Tim, Timi Yuro. Oh, if only I had a voice like Timi Yuro...
"There was always something in her voice that made you think of lorgnettes, of accounts at Tiffany's, of sledges smoothly gliding on the trail from Dawson to Forty Mile, of the tinkling of pendant prisms on your grandmother's chandaliers, of snow lying on a convent roof; of a police sergeant denying bail.

Foster's manages to combine both those ingredients.

I actually kind of like Foster's. And the ale that you can sometimes get in the green can. As long as it's cold, really. Not so much when it's warm. Murphy's Stout is my favorite, actually. Not too easy to find on tap in most places, but at least you can have Guinness in almost any town.

Digression...
