Profiling and Idiots

Everyone has heard by now about the low-level diplomat from Qatar who was caught smoking in the bathroom of a plane to Denver. Not only was he breaking federal law, but he made a joke about lighting his shoe which had the opposite effect from what was intended. He was not cooperative with the air marshals who asked to see his pipe.

To their credit, most in the Arab community have acknowledged what an idiot this young man was. However, the cries of "profiling" have started as well. For all who are concerned about the profiling of Muslims from the Middle East, I would have to say this is not the right case. This guy's attitude resulted in fighters scrambling and a notification of the President.

Profiling Idiots

Just as only white mens can be racist, only Middle-Eastern Arabs/Persians/Palestinians can be the victims of profiling.

Of all of the people who smoked in THAT bathroom, on THAT, flight, at THAT moment, and then made jokes about bombs, they only detained the Arab. Clear case of profiling.

So we shoot down an airliner cuz some daft arab is smoking?

All smoking type stuff should be banned from carryon luggage. It'll be good for the economy at the destination; more smoking type stuff sales !!!

He or those who would defend him say that people of European descent (example given was a Swede) get caught smoking and they get a fine or a warning, but no alert from the air marshals or the pilot. I'm with you, here. There is a lot more to it.

Frankly the stupidity of this guy trumps everything. Thirty-five years ago, when I was a student in Vienna, I got a visa and took a short trip to see Budapest--a beautiful city, but a bit of an adventure given the cold war. I remember having a brief bit of trouble with some transportation official. The last thing I was going to do in that situation is make a dumb joke that I'm taking photos so that our missiles can target you. Profiling or not, you do have to realize that where you come from may affect how someone in another country interprets your actions.

Obviously, we didn't. After 9/11, no one wants to take any chances about what a possible terrorist might be up to. Perhaps he wants to bring down a plane over downtown Denver and kill as many people on the ground as possible. Who knows?

What those same people don't want to admit is that it was not the smoking that got this idiot in trouble it was the shoe-bomb joke. If a Swede had said the same thing the air marshall & pilots would have reacted exactly the same way as they did in this case. Call in a threat and arrest the dipstick...

Just more insanity of a PC society. Israelis often say "we have profiled you, come with us"........they don't worry what the world thinks, and they don't have planes hijacked or brought down either.

Regards!

That's what I was thinking, too. One of the foundations of liberalism is "Political Correctness"; which is based on the belief that it is possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

No the PC party is yours George......spitting on elected officials, using the "N" word often, urging violent revolution, obstructing Govt programs, and plotting to kill policemen are all PC in the Tea Party. Feel proud?
Beast Regards!

Exactly. And add to that the fact that he was uncooperative at first about showing them the lighter and pipe, and you have a problem no matter who he is. However, I think it is also not completely realistic to deny that being a foreign national from a part of the world that has been involved in a lot of trouble with the U.S. had anything to do with it. I would totally understand if I got extra scrutiny in certain countries. What was done with this guy was completely appropriate under either consideration.

This whole discussion is ridiculous.......why do we even discuss such things in America? If you have a yard full of dogs...all dogs, with equal "dog rights" and equally "doggy" and the only rabbit in the yard turns up as fur balls, do you check out the little Tea Cup Chihuahuas or the Pit Bulls? Apparently some in America feel they need to find an aging little Tea Cup Chihuahua in a Wheelchair to bring in for questioning along with the Pit Bull with fur on his lips to "make things PC". No wonder we are in decline...we are a nation of idiots.

If the sky marshals are going to have to deal with a "profiling inquisition" anyway , they should have just given the little dung beatle a swirly and banged him sensless with the toilet seat! Why is it this arrogant POS feels that smoking in an airline restroom is OK for him in the first place ? Is he special? Is he better than the general public? It's a shame the sky marshals didn't discretely dislocate a few of his joints .

Righto. Prior to 9/11 we were so PC, and the various "intelligence agencys" so intent on turf-defense that noone could see the greater picture. Post 9/11 it's still a bunch of pappekak; afraid of profiling, we would rather shoot down an airliner than take appropriate steps to prevent Islamo-Jihadists from boarding the aircraft.

Explain exactly how you can tell someone is an "Islamo-Jihadist".
