Our Sympathies To Our Polish Members

(I didn't know where to put this--Politics or here--so I have a 50% chance of being right.)

I just want to extend my best wishes, condolences, and support after this tragedy, regardless of your political views. Politics is one thing, but the senseless loss of life is another.

I hope that somehow, this horrific event makes the Polish people even stronger, and helps you all come together for the betterment of every Polish citizen.

One other thing:

I'll never forget the support and good wishes that so many Americans received after 9/11 from online folks from all over the world.

It really helped, and I hope that some of our posts here do the same thing.

Such a national tragedy. But the sad part is that the incident has a sad parallel to the death in 1943 of wartime Polish Prime Minister General Władysław Sikorski who also perished in a plane crash.

Lech Kaczynski with Wife and other 94 politicians was going to Katyn Masacre mourning ceremony.
Sad thing is that Katyń Masacre where 14,000 members of the Polish Armed Forces and professional classes who were executed in Katyn Forest 1940.

My god.

Condolences, Poles.

(Let's keep this thread apolitical.)

EDIT: List of Polish government figures killed:

National leader:
President Lech Kaczynski and wife Maria

Other politicians:
Wladyslaw Stasiak chief of the president's chancellery; Aleksander Szczyglo chief of the National Security Office; Slawomir Skrzypek National Bank of Poland chairman;
Jerzy Szmajdzinski deputy speaker of the lower house; Andrzej Kremer Foreign Ministry's undersecretary of state; Stanislaw Komorowski deputy minister of national defence; Przemyslaw Gosiewski Law and Justice party deputy chair;

Military chief:
Franciszek Gagor chief of the General Staff

Cultural figures:
Andrzej Przewoznik head of Poland's Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites; Tomasz Merta chief historical conservator

That's a big blow.

It seems much of the story was a little slow to get out, at least over here. (There was talk of a bad plane crash for a while before they started saying who was on it.)

My condolences, too. I can't say I know much about Poland's politics, but it does sound like a hard day for it to happen, too.

It is indeed a tragedy and our sympathies to the bereaved but the question must be asked , why were all these people on the same plane?
