Search this thread for AMU

and you will find some have attempted to be established

from filters to the SMC Pentax-DA 40mm F2.8 XS

key to determining a SMU or AMU

must be relatively available to all at cheap price

usable for multiple purposes

tasting good a bonus

filters don't match the qualifications - too expensive to qualify

YMMV

Don’t sweat the SMUs*. Any AMU** will do

* Standard Measuring Unit.
** Alternate Measuring Unit. I’m partial to Oreo’s or Fig Newtons

Awesome, I think I'll use some Jaffa Cakes as an AMU - I think I will still have enough when the time comes .

I'm afraid I won't be able to replicate your methodology, but I think these might work as an alternative unit:
Attachment 412132

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leibniz-Keks
and even an attempt to establish a SAU

I am planning on using this as a "SAU" since from what I gather there isn't one This stuff is so good You can make anything edible with it even GRITS
SAU= Standard Adhesion Unit

This AMU madness is running amuck! Next, the mythical Aussies will be demanding the inclusion of Tim Tams and the Japanese will add Pocky chocolate sticks.

How about agreeing on the following requirements for AMUs:

Ingredients: must contain chocolate, gluten, lactose, sugar, and fat -- no vegan cardboard wafers allowed!

Geometry: must be stackable to the height of the DFA 150-450 -- as tasty as chocolate rums balls may be, they make a poor basis for metrology.

Dimensions: must be K-mount compatible -- the diameter should be should be similar to K-mount so that the cookie stack presents a pleasing and tempting counterpoint to the lens without being larger than the lens.

All in favor, say YUM!

???? ???

by that requirement

but so long as the SMU stays as established I won't argue about that as a description of the AMU

[ another reason not to argue is that I don't like to get beat up ]

as far as I am concerned, I think Perryberry Farm is the expert on the issue

I nominate the M50/2 as the Measuring Unit. They’re thin, stackable and everyone has ten or twenty of them in the back of a drawer.

For an SMU it's hard to beat Moravian cookies* - but they are murder to stack.

*If you're not familiar with these, try GOOGLING "Moravian cookies." They are paper thin with intense flavor. Literally disintegrate in your mouth.

I bought a spare DB-60 battery and Lowepro Dublin 30 pouch,
both for my recently acquired little Ricoh GR camera.

Looks to me like a boot-sale salesman. Apologies to those who find camera bargains at boot sales. Growing up near NYC, one becomes deeply suspicious of fellows who open their coats inside of which hang scores of wristwatches and offer a bargain price for a genuine Rolex. They might actually have one that graced the hand of a hedge-fund manager the day before.

I have a new Sigma 70-300 on order, but trawling through a couple of local second hand type shops I picked up two lenses for less than $100, a Sigma 28-90 Aspherical macro and a Pentax 50mm manual focus. Regretfully we don't have girl scout cookies but being of Scottish ancestry we have Tunnocks Caramel Wafers instead...
Please let us know how the Sigma works out for you. I have several zooms that start at 28 or 35mm and go to between 70 and 90mm, including the same model Sigma. They all have macro in their name but most only go to 1:4 or so. The Sigma works fine for me, I would appreciate your opinion.

I think that the Pentax lens is an M50mm/f2, which should be terrific for you.

Buying yourself a couple of lenses for Christmas is a great idea, sounds like you and I had similar Christmas experiences. I did the same (one was a second-hand that I accidentally found) the other purchased with serious intent in the Boxing Day sales.
