If only I had known... I would have encouraged a bidding war.

Glad the lens found a new home and appreciative new owner. I have other macros, including an Adaptall 72B, which I considered selling instead of the 52BB.

Cheers,

I've sold 7 lenses in the last few weeks. It is my intent to have fewer and shoot more.

Today I bought two cameras

I surrendered to both LBA and curiosity today. I found a A 35-70mm F4 (constant aperture) at a pretty good price, $AUD40. There is a bit of dust on the edges of the rings, and a hint of grind on the focus ring occasionally, so I am counting on everything moving more freely with use.

Next is to compare with a few others to choose the best replacement for my Tamron SP 35-80 (which has a bit of ooze on inside of a front element) as a light-weight short tele. The comparison is between:
Today's Pentax A 35-70mm f4
Pentax FA 35-80mm f3.5-5.6
Tokina 28-70mm f3.5-4.5
Sigma Aspherical Macro 28-90mm f3.5-5.6
Old favourite Pentax M 40-80mm f2.8-4

Obviously the oldest ones look and feel the best (the M, A and Tokina) compared to the lightweight plastic of the other two, but the FA scores very well for sharpness on the Forum.

Any advance opinions welcome, comparisons will take a while.
To add to the competition, I just picked up two F series zooms in very good condition for about $50USD:
F 35-70 f3.5-4.5
F 35-105 f4-5.6

Both rainbow markings and hard plastic bodies but metal mounts, so in the middle for tactile quality, now to investigate the image quality. Should be good.

I am convinced that I will not buy any more long telephoto zooms! Convinced - until something tweaks my fancy. Convinced.

Not an actual purchase but the 75mm F2.8 for my 645 system did just turn up in one of the drawers in my study. I couldn't find it when I was checking over my 645 stuff and was even thinking that maybe I'd sold it a few years back.

I've also had a Sigma 135-400mm and a SMC-M 135mm F3.5 arrive. I'm also hoping for something later in the week when it's my birthday. Hopefully something to replace the Sigma 14mm which is pretty much useless in any kind of "into the light" situation.

I bought the SMC Pentax (K) 300/4 lens for sale in Pentax Forums Marketplace from a member.

I don't often use long lenses, but when you need one you need one.
Offered at a bargain price it was simply too hard to resist.

My old Tamron Adaptall 300/5.6 lens hasn't turned up since we moved.

I have one of those Tamron's Chris - the CT-300. I think it is quite sharp as long as there is not too much red is the shot, but it seems to suffer from some kind of red saturation although other colours are well separated. I expect that the K300/4 would command a great price premium. My best 300mm vintage lens is the Tamron 23A 60-300mm - I think it is sharper than my HD 55-300PLM, but I have not yet run a side-by-side comparison.

My erstwhile Tamron was the later Adaptall 2 Model 54B.
Image quality was excellent but at f/5.6 it was a little slow.

The SMC Pentax 300/4 lens should be a bit easier to use.
BTW I will be using it only with my Pentax 35mm film SLRs.

Is the SMC K 300/4 the same lens as the Takumar SMC 300/4, but with a different mount?

I once got the title on the spine of a book at about 200 yards with the Tak 300/4, at the Botanic Gardens in Singapore.

The K version seems to be a different formula, 7 elements in 5 groups.

It wasn't just a lens I wanted and a lovely product photo... last year (when I was rarely around PF) Craig did me a solid and sold me a 49mm S25 close-up lens - those are hard to come by! So when you know there's a good dude or dudette on the other end of the transaction, that provides a little more impetus to get it done.

Thanks, curious to know.

I have a Tak 300/4 which I quite like. It is big and chunky but f4 needs that.

Yesterday, I received my experienced Tamron Adaptall-2 SP 500mm f/8 Mirror (55BB) with front and end caps, the appropriate hood and case ( no strap )
feeling somewhat under the weather so really haven't tried it out yet. dislike the fact that the hood when reversed over the lens does not lock but that is the nature of the beast as far as I know.

so these are my only photos so far:

Adaptall Mount Club (Tamron). - PentaxForums.com

purchased on Ebay from a neighbor " up north ", very well packed for shipment

SMU for scaling purpose only, not consumption, darn diet

I'm a wee bit envious. I want one for my Adaptall Arsenal to replace my MTO 500/8.

Hope you feel better soon and get good use of the lens.

They're here . . . .

I have the lens to match the black ME-F and a satin chrome ME-F. One of the two will become a user camera, the other a display camera. The MESuper replaces my 1984 original owner satin chrome MESuper that was ruined in a basement flood. I've always wanted a black MESuper and this one came into the Marketplace, so there you go.
