May or may not have spent another £40 on two vintage lenses;
A Helios 44-2 in, apparently, excellent condition and,
An Auto Takumar 55mm f/2.2 in, apparently, excellent condition.

Looking forward to these arriving and trying them out.

Anyone who complains that "experienced" lenses are useless should take note of this post.

Seems like a great daily walkaround lens. Easily hand-holdable!

As I recall, during the period soon after its introduction the 135~600mm developed a good reputation for IQ, and a bad one for convenience. Definitely a "location lens" = take it to a spot where it's worth setting up a tripod and waiting.

I had a shot at a 135-600 but the postage from Canada was more than the value of the lens, more’s the pity now that I’ve seen what it can do. I’ll just have to use primes between 135 and 600.

I managed to come in under $500 including tax and shipping, thanks to having some ebay bucks squirreled away.

I have a vague - and possibly errant - memory of commenting on this lens a while back when it came up in conversation in some thread, and you telling me to be patient and that I would eventually find one at a reasonable price.

Anyway, this one came with everything (including the close-up adapter) except for the front lens cap.

I'll eventually setup a thread so I can post samples and impressions, but one aspect of the lens I find interesting is that while neither as sharp nor as fast as the K 500/4.5, it seems to produce images with greater saturation and contrast.

For the green heron photo I was sitting on a tree root and had the lens mounted on a monopod. It certainly is "bad... for convenience."
