This is a semi auto aperture. It's a step up from a preset. My auto-tak 35mm f2.3 has something similar.

Likewise my AutoTak 35/3.5.

I just received a Super Tak 55/1.8, a lens I have wanted to try for a while. Looks clear and clean. I got it with a genuine Pentax m42 adapter (how nice to not have the lens at some arbitrary orientation!), a decent quality m42 macro tube set (made in Japan, it says), a Soligor 2x TC, a rocket blower, a lens brush (unopened), some UV and skylight filters (not that I need them but the skylight is an Asahi filter) - and some lens tissue and a lens pen, both of which go straight into the bin

I think I did well for $60.

I wonder if it's still there - I often work in Cardiff (2x days weekly) so should really pop into the physical shops for a look around. Same goes for the Camera Centre in Swansea.
There are two little camera shops very close to each other in Cardiff, both in the arcades. I think I bought the lens in Camera Centre UK and they had a lot of old gear for sale. The other is Cameraland, which is smaller with much less stuff but I bought some Tri-X there that was about 1 GBP cheaper than everywhere else. I so infrequently buy in real shops rather than online, it's nice to find bargains while out and about.

Nice to see. I remember seeing those Mamiya 35mm's when they were new and in camera store display cases.

I have a Mamiya 220 Pro F since the mid '80's and three Mamiya-Sekor lenses. They made/make fine photographic equipment.
The Mamiya 645 C lenses are also nice and inexpensive. I have collected a bundle of them (45, 55, 80 macro, 80-1.9, 145SF, 150, 210, 300) which I use on the K-1 with a FOTODIOX adapter. There is a cognate N line, which are similar in appearance to the earlier C line but which are said to offer improved coatings. They are uniformly good performers, with the 150mm being a standout along with the fast 80mm f 1.9, said to be the fastest medium format lens ever produced. Overall, however, there has been little point to this collecting/using exercise except amusement. They cannot be adapted for the Pentax 645 cameras because of incompatible registry distances. These lenses are still a pleasure to use, however, because of their all-metal build, precise construction, and nice smooth long focussing throws.

Today's charity shop bargain - a Canon AE1 body for a fiver! Won't know if it's OK for sure until I get a good lens, but it's powering up and doing the right things without one.

Asahi Pentax ES...

In very nice condition, only one spot of brassing on the bottom plate and a few scratches, considering it's as old as I am. The mirror bumped seems to be mostly gone and I think someone was using the camera as it was deteriorating. There is a line that runs across the viewfinder right below the microprism ring. I can't tell if it's from the bumper or if the prism is de-silvering.

The SMC 50/1.4 that came with it was missing the filter ring and beauty plate, and the front element was oily. So the lens in the photo is from my SP II.

The 3 Super-Multi-Coated Takumar' that were also included were very nice (28/3.5, 135/3.5, 200/4). All have the original case, caps, and Asahi lens hood. The cases for the 2 telephotos are deteriorating somewhat, they left the lenses a bit dirty...but no fungus or mildew...There was even an extra 51mm Asahi front cap and rear cap IOB,

Not bad for $94 plus $10 shipping. Someone tried to snipe me with .05s left, but I had a max bid of $100...

Very good price. Over here you can't get one at a thrift shop for less than $80...just as popular among the hipsters as the K1000.

I had a couple of cameras do that. There is a part of the pentaprism housing that touches the prism silver and that is where the blemish comes from over time. Doesn't affect image but its a pain to view through.

not a new acquisition but rather a return to the line up of my available lenses:

my HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6 ED DC AW literally came apart into two pieces in the middle of our safari to Tanzania

it has come back from the local repairman that pres589 had mentioned in a post to the forum:

Phototronic

119 NE US Highway 24
Topeka KS 66608

785 233 0231

he was able to repair it and at a cost of less than $300

he runs a one man shop opened only in the afternoon M-F and he is not, by his own admission, the world fastest

he advises you to keep calling him to check on the progress of the repair

he does Vintage to Digital Camera Repairs with free estimates [ he does not sell equipment ]

If you want to try him out, please call him first

*************** he is not a licensed Pentax repair shop *********************

Sure nice to have this kind of shop near where you live. Keh is also good, repaired my 645 90mm f 2.8 for their minimum lens fee of $250.

you are correct on that

I had noticed the shop for years but thought it was for a photographer, not for a repair shop

then pres589 posted it as a possible repair option

it is located right next door to where we board our dog when we go on vacation

Very nice. I have a black ES ll, which I bought new in the mid 70's. Nice cameras.

So. Next time you go on safari, both dog & lens can be left where they won't get hurt but will receive professional care.
