So. Next time you go on safari, both dog & lens can be left where they won't get hurt but will receive professional care.

I had a couple of cameras do that. There is a part of the pentaprism housing that touches the prism silver and that is where the blemish comes from over time. Doesn't affect image but its a pain to view through.
VERY common in old Zenits and Prakticas, but I've seen it in almost every make at one time or another. In Zenits it's usually a faint line of brown down the middle of the prism image, two sides of the prism meet there and the protective coating over the silvering was often poor at the angle. But I've got an old Minolta SR with a very thick line of brown horizontally across the middle of the image - it's almost impossible to see past it, but fortunately I'm just using the body to check that lenses stop down etc., not as a working camera, so it's no big deal.

I won an eBay auction for a non-OS Sigma 120-400mm DG zoom in mint condition couple of weeks back. with shipping and the Pennsylvania sales tax on both, the cost was $557.
I must say, the lens performance is pretty impressive. Hand holdable down to quite slow speeds on my K-3. Superb sharpness out to 300mm and very good to 400mm. Beats the pants off the Sigma 170-500mm I just sold and hits its sharpness sweet spot one stop wider than my SMCA 400 f5.6.
Of course, now the is an OS version of this lens for sale on this forums Marketplace for the same price I paid on eBay (and no 6% tax to ad $S). Always has to happen to me. I've looked for six months for a reasonably priced unit then two in two weeks. Someone should jump o the one for sale!

I broke down and bought myself a new bag. One to strap on the sissy bar of my motorcycle so I can feel better about bringing my k70 with me on adventures. Some cheap Amazon DSLR bag. And a couple days ago, I rescued a tripod from the scrap metal pile. The kid who threw it in (19 years old and shooting Cannon) because "I got it free and never use the damn thing."

That same kid has an old film era 50mm 1.4 lens he's trading me for a small bottle of whiskey that, um, I'm assuming will be for photography purposes only. But I'm not ever going to use the bottle (4 years now) and he's never even heard of using film era lenses on digital.

Hmm, I just looked through my spreadsheet and noticed that, before getting the GX80 recently, I hadn't bought any new lenses for 670 days. No lenses at all in all of 2018, and only 3 so far this year. Not bad.

That is fantastic. I just started a long period of buying no lenses. After getting the Zeiss 100mm f 2.0 T* planar earlier this week, I cannot afford any more lenses for just as many days . . . though I am looking at the Zeiss 50mm f 1.4 planar T*

An insanely humble master.

I just got a DeWalt 9 gallon shop vacuum. On sale at Lowes. It really sucks but in this case that's a good thing. $20 less expensive than on Amazon!!!

Nice!

What happened to your old shop vac? Was it hosed or did it have a brush with death?

Well, it was an old Genie 5 gallon shop vac. Probably over 30 years old. Served well, but it's time had come.

Picked up an Olympus OM-10 and a Oly 50 1.8 from goodwill for 4 dollars today, with a case that's in decent shape and the manual adapter.

Not a bad deal though it most certainly needs a CLA.

Yesterday's car boot sale was a total loss, nothing worth getting, so I went to Portobello Road where I got slightly luckier and found

Meyer-Optik Görlitz Telemegor 5.5/180 for Exakta - beautiful cosmetic condition and focuses but someone has removed the aperture blades completely - with a leatherette case
Lomography action camera - the type with four lenses and flashes - which also unfortunately doesn't work properly, the shutters work but the flashes don't seem to charge up or fire

I paid a tenner for the two, and both can be used to an extent and will sell for enough as spares/repairs that I'll come out ahead, but it's a bit annoying that I couldn't find anything better.

Just getting ready to head out for today's chapter of junk...

The old OM 50 f/1.8 is an awesome little lens.
