That's a nice flash. the convoluted controls were not my favourite, but to use simply PTTL it's a solid performer.

That's a bold and somewhat funny claim.

I've always thought that any marketing department that lets the word 'perfect' be associated with any of their products must either be a room full of idiots or an awful lot of chutzpah...

But that leads to the question... Is it the perfect hood?

Probably only if the lens is mounted on an FF camera with no IBIS.

The "perfect" hood for a given lens needs to be shaped for the exact dimensions of the working sensor area (including IBIS motion) so that the hood blocks as much stray light as possible without ever vignetting any rays that would pass through to the sensor. Thus Sigma would need to make four variants of the hood: APS-C, APS-C+IBIS, FF, and FF+IBIS.

A side note - I do not have the M 50/1.4 = I have the SMC Tak 50/1.4 and the A 50/1.4 (I keep both as they're honestly different)... The A 50/1.4 is notorious for sticky iris = currently I have 2 copies, one of which I only use wide open due to the sticky iris issue. So, when/if acquiring one it might be a gamble.

I do believe the M and A 50/1.4's are going to produce very similar results... If you want a different 50/1.4 try to get an 8-element takumar or a K 50/1.4.

Yep - perfect would imply a mathematical conclusion.

I should have given you the petal hood I have. I meant to. It vignettes pretty badly for me but that is on FF. It might be fine on crop.
Although it may not be "perfect"...

Did you just acquire the bubble level too ? really nice, it looks "professionnal", and it must be very useful !

Apart from that, the hood fits the lens perfectly, with the K3 it a beautiful looking combo

I've ogled at that thread (and your pictures too) for a little while after finding out about the 50mm f/2.8 Macro. Really looking forward to giving it an outing now - especially after the update that it's being posted as we speak!

I think I'd agree. Since acquiring the M50/1.4, Ive neglected the (admittedly easier to use) A50/1.7. The A-50/1.4 would be a true sweet-spot, but costs more than the A50/1.7 (£20 posted) or the M50/1.4 (£35 posted) that I've acquired along my journey.

This is true for the DA50/1.8 (£50 posted) too. It's sat prone while I've forced myself to improve a bit with manual focus. It actually felt strange picking it up the other day, but it does produce some great results and epic sharpness.
I've handled an A 50/1.4 and was surprised to find that the build quality didn't feel significantly better than the f/1.7 version. The f/2.8 macro is better though.

I barely use mine but should give it a chance now that I've grown comfortable with the field of view of my 23mm f/2 Fujinon lens.

Looks very nice. I've always avoided Hanimex lenses as they have a poor reputation but this one looks good. A few weeks ago I found a 28/2.8 for sale somewhere but a quick Google search turned up various sites titled with variations of "Is this the worst lens ever made?" so I let it go.

I've always avoided them too, as I have read the same. However I did read that the earlier ones are OK, this one is nice and solid, firm focus damping, and alright, won't be my fav lens by far, but fun to muck around with
