In a post above I described a new design automated astrograph. For anyone interested out of curiosity, the device is called STELLINA, made by Vaonis. The review is in the magazine Astronomy for August 2020. It is designed to image deep sky objects = globular clusters, nebulae, galaxies, etc., and is not good for imaging planets (tested on Saturn, results unacceptable). It was not tested as a potential solar imager (no solar filter). Compositing an image may take up to 30 minutes.

two items just received in the mail

an oversized " flip book " operating manual for the K 1 II [ 8 1/2 " x 11 " spiral bound ]

the " experienced " K 1 II that I have coming did not have the operator manual and I like to read the manual as oppose to using the PDF file

I found it on Ebay

my " like new " battery grip for the K 1 II purchased from a member, box and original paper work

now if the USPS would deliver my overdue " experienced " K 1 II, I think I am set

[ it is what it is ]

Today's junk shop find was an Olympus Trip 35 - working well, a couple of scratches on the metal but otherwise OK. Cost me 20, should make a profit.

My trigger happy mouse finger be damned! Two Tessars because nobody had bid on them. They were spares or repairs. The one with the red lettering actually works quite well and is probably better than the one I already had. The other one is very stiff and has a broken aperture so I will consider it a lens to practice lens repair on.

The good one

The bad one

I see a lot of Tessars with aperture faults. Really not sure why, they don't seem to be an unusual aperture mechanism design.

Mostly oil in the blades I guess or maybe the spring has gotten lazy.

I have won an auction for a *ist DL with 18-55 and 75-300 lenses. It was described as having a shutter problem. A picture showed a memory card error. We'll see what turns up and if it can be revived. It was all of USD50 for the lot.

Hopefully the "75-300" turns out to be a DA or DA L 55-300mm. All I could tell from the pictures was that it has a Pentax lens cap and looks the part. I will keep you posted when it arrives.

PS: it was one of those quickie auctions - it lasted less than 36 hours. Not really enough time to ask the seller questions. If the camera works I will be giving IR a go with it.

Got my first Takumar in from Japan today: the 200 / 3.5. There are a handful others I'd like to try, but this seemed relatively unique between the preset aperture and (slightly unnecessary) 18 diaphragm blades, so when I found one with the hood and collar for a decent price, I sprung for it.

Just treated myself to a Fotga tilt and shift adapter for using Nikon lenses on my Micro 4/3 camera. Won't arrive for weeks, probably, since it's coming from Hong Kong, but the price was right. I've gone with Nikon because I have a good assortment of lenses including an 8mm Samyang, and I think that would give some interesting results. Cost 18.25 including postage which won't break the bank.

I have a new backpacking sleeping pad on the way, a Therarest NeoAir XLite. Should free up some room and weight in my pack for more camera stuff.

Hello Pepperberry farm,
I failed miserably to contain LBA...
First tests are promising but a learning curve is to be expected...
