A week or so ago, one of the twist handles on my Bogen 3028 tripod head broke. This is not unusual on these older heads and interestingly enough parts are still available. However, there seemed to be a shortage last week and the price for a handle was not far off the price of a complete EX+ replacement from KEH. As a result, I now have two 3028 heads, with one having a broken handle. The replacement is pictured below and it is exceptionally clean. I bought my original copy as support for my 4x5 field camera and my understanding is that it was intended for that sort of load as well as medium format. Construction is mostly cast metal alloy and the design results in excellent rigidity in most orientations. The handles serve as ratcheted tighteners to allow tilt on two axes. Along with base pan, there is a admirable amount of flexibility for positioning without having the more typical long twist levers and limited motion of a standard 3-way head. FWIW, the Manfrotto 056 3-D Junior head is the present continuation of this basic design.
I knew I wanted to share this new arrival here, but was not sure how to craft an interesting photo until I noticed that it looked like a sci-fi space dock when viewed side-on, so there we have it.

For reference, the platform is 70mm x 80mm on a 60mm diameter base at 685gm.
