*snip*
I remember reading some tests on a photography magazine of the time, and the conclusion was that the 1st series - the one with the zoom ring divided in two sectors and the focusing ring divided into four - was the better of the bunch, and subsequent changes in the optical formula worsened the performance of the "DG" (purportedly optimized for digital) and HSM (even worse, probably due to mass constraints imposed by the focusing mechanism).
I'm completely satisfied with my copy though, so that's probably just nit-picking

I bit the bullet and “won” the auction for a nice shooter grade 8 element Super Takumar 50/1.4. Final tally is about $35 under the average sold price and the shipping was reasonable since its a USA seller. I have several 7 element versions in coving all three variants. Can’t wait to try the “magical 8” version.

Well, shopgoodwill sucked me back in. I have been wanting to get a Nikon SB800 flash for my D3100 but have been waiting for a good deal. Since I now have a proper Pentax DSLR, I'm not wanting to sink much more money into Nikon stuff. I "won" a SB-28 for a price a bit better than Ebay (as long as it ends up working). We'll see. No TTL but I can live with that.

I got a pair of Samson SR850 headphones on a pretty steep discount. Mainly got them for monitoring my voice recordings but the sound quality on them is really great for casual listening!

That looks a lovely lens. Much in the way of CA towards wide-open?

I have not seen CA in my limited use of this lens. I refer you to the following review which seems not to have any significant CA either: Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 135mm (C/Y) f/2.8 Lens Review

I've just sold the Cosina 19-35mm I've had up for sale for a while so should ship that out tomorrow and I plan to get a Z-1 I've had my eye on as a one-for-one now that the lens is gone. Hopefully the Mrs won't complain too much about that. The Z-1 looks in better condition than the one I already have and comes with a 28-80 power zoom, for which the reviews seem mediocre.

Wess FTU III slide mounter

I bought this as an improved way to accurately cut my 35mm negatives into strips.
My old method was cumbersome and now difficult due to recent vision problems.

Pic of the watch? I keep trying to avoid getting completely sucked in, but it's difficult! I think I'm going to get a midrange Orient diver and give it an extended go. I might be in the minority that likes their aesthetic and giant logo, but to me it's pretty cool.

I've been thinking of doing that but haven't had the time just yet.

I just bought some new Alpine ski boots, a pair of Lange RX 120s. They are last year's model about half off but still not cheap.
I've been meaning to replace my old boots (some 10+ year old Garmonts) and just had a buckle break on me last weekend so the time has come.
I have not skied Lange since my college freestyle team days.

A DGB6 Grip for the K1. When shooting from a static rope, i really miss the extra grip for vertical !
