A Wray (London) "Supar" 4 1/4" F4.5 enlarger lens.

Also, a Schneider Kreuznach 5cm F2 "Xenon" in Exakta mount. This one has suffered in the hands of some inexperienced "technician" some decades ago. It has a small nick on the front element and a couple more nicks in the following inner element. It is the first version of the Xenon lenses formula, with 6 elements in 5 groups, all metal and glass and 14 aperture blades. Besides the nicks there's also some surface damage in the (very soft) coating of the back element but hey! it is a lens form the 1930's so perfect ones are almost unobtanium and I'm happy I got it at all where I live.

The pictures show the lens still not fully CLA'd

Previously, I had always used front-mounted glass or film type white light solar filters on my telescopes, and have a half-dozen around here in different sizes to fit the various models, each providing a slightly different level of quality insofar as the detail revealed in the eyepiece.

Late yesterday afternoon my first Herschel wedge type filter was delivered, and I was able to use it for a bit before the Sun dropped below my horizon.

The difference in image quality between the two filter types was like night-and-day; the wedge much sharper. Glad I finally got one of these.

I bought a third PK to L adapter, the standard K&F Concept one that doesn't allow for the adjustment of aperture on lenses that have no aperture ring. I also have that one but don't like it because (A) it's too easy to leave it set to hold the aperture wide open regardless of the aperture set on the ring and (B) it won't work with my M 120mm f/2.8, which has a weird add-on not present on any other K-mount lens I've used. I have a standard Urth brand adapter too but it's frankly ugly and the smooth finish makes it difficult to grip.
I took this shot of my M120/2.8 for you to compare.

That looks like a K mount of OEM spec.

It's the black plastic surround next to the metal mount, not the part that moves with the optics when focusing, the immobile surround. I checked a bunch of my other K-mount lenses, film and digital eras, and they're all stepped with the lowest at the outer edge and rising closer to the optics, while the one on the M 120/2.8 is smooth and the same height across it's whole width. Mine is exactly the same.

It's perhaps a milimetre of difference compared to others (though it varies) but it's enough that it won't mount on that adapter.

Oh yes, the 35 was on the list, but I already have a macro lens, so I opted for the ultra compact 40mm Ltd.. I can fit all 4 lenses in my little thinktank mirrorless mover 20 bag, so there’s that. However, I can’t say I won’t end up with the 35 Ltd and/or the 20-40 Ltd in a few years!. As for the FA limiteds, budget constraints ruled those out right away, but if several hundred dollars suddenly appeared, I would spring for the FA’s too because they really are things of beauty!

The DA 40 is a great choice. Mine has served me very well over the years. I also have the 20-40 now and so the 40 gets out less (no WR is a strike against it). But when I do, I love how it handles and makes the camera so nice and compact. I've even used it in a concert that I wasn't supposed to bring a removable lens camera into because it made it look more like it just had fixed lens. The rendering is great too, so nice and sharp!

tiny pentax 300mm f5.6

Actually a pentax spotting scope based on 300mm f5.6 mirror lens with T mount and viewer ocular.
But Tmount allows it to be used as lens....
Works fine as spotting scope, but first shots on camera indicate low contrast and resolution (but I need better weather to evaluate).
Probably more a curiosity than a lens ...

After a long dry spell, I have jumped into the pool again and it is going swimmingly. A local shop have had a KX on their website for a while now. The price is about USD150. Not a bad deal but it has an 18-55 kit zoom included in the price. I already have two of them, which make it a bit of a deal breaker. After thinking about it long and hard, I came up with the thought of emailing them about a different deal.

My brilliant idea was to suggest a swap for another Pentax lens that they have in stock. I would then buy the KX and other lens, with a small discount for the kit lens that they will keep. They might or might not go for it, since those kit lenses can't be easy to shift. That is why I sweetened the deal. No harm in asking, so I forged ahead.

Looking at the used Pentax stuff on the website, I saw a DA 35/2.4 that would expand my collection nicely. I do not have any Pentax AF prime lenses yet, might as well get started. I was about to start typing that email when my eye caught something else.

There it was - a Pentax K3 body at a price I could relate to! No stinking kit lens included - what a deal! After thinking about it for about three seconds I went downstairs for my wallet to get my debit card number. That K3 is now mine. Yes, I took the DA 35/2.4 as well. Why not? The total is about USD440 (free shipping included) and I could not be happier. It should be here by the middle of next week.

PS: now to start shopping for a battery grip and GPS unit...
