They're pretty tough as well, if my Elantra is any indication. We're pushing 225,000 miles on her and she's about to celebrate her 10th birthday.

Awesome! I have the same flash and love it. Actually I have only used it on camera once in a while - use it mostly for off camera. The wireless P-TTL works well and I also use it with radio triggers. I did have a Metz flash before the 540, and found the Metz menu/control system very frustrating. In comparison using the 540 is a breeze.

After a year of searching...

I finally found it - an original hood (PH-S52) for the SMC 24/2.8 K series lens. It's not in my possession yet, an international purchase, due to arrive early February. I never really expected to find one. But every now and then I run a search and there it was. I'm sure I over paid for it, but as rare as these seem to be, I wasn't letting it get away.

Sounds good! Persistence pays.

My buy was a local, Craigslist find. I've often dreamed of finding a nice set of old Asahi gear. I finally did .

Clockwise from upper left:
Tele-Takumar 135 f/3.5
"K" screw mount body with 55 f/1.8 Auto-Takumar
GE exposure meter
Auto-Takumar 35 f/2.3
set of 46mm close-up lenses for the 55 f/1.8
Vivitar 80-200 f4.5
etc. accessories

I haven't tried everything yet, but it all looks well cared for.
And the former owner kept his receipts.
Here are some dates and prices paid (and adjusted to 2013 USD):

[1960] K body / Auto-Tak 55 1.8 .....$102 ($791)
[1960] Tele-Tak 135 3.5 .................$42 ($326)
[1960] Auto-Tak 35 2.3 ...................$47 ($365)
[1981] Vivitar 80-200 4.5 ................$143 ($361)

@all thumbs, nice find! If you plan on shooting with that body, you might consider sending it to Eric (pentaxs.com) for a CLA if the light seals are gummy. He can put it in like-new condition. The folks that hang out in the film forum (Pentax Film SLR Discussion - PentaxForums.com) will confirm this.

Thanks for the tip, but the body looks good and I think it's ready to shoot.

Way cool. I have only the body and the Zebra lens - there are a few more of us around with that combo but I think yours takes top.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to trying out my new toys.

By the way, in my text you quoted I listed the 35 f/2.3 lens as a "Tele". It's actually an "Auto-Takumar". (I corrected it in the original post.)

Yes, excellent info there. Thanks. I stumbled across that site while researching my new (old) gear.
Before I bought my Kit, I knew virtually nothing about early Pentax SLRs and lenses. So, reading about them has been a lesson in Asahi Optical history for me. (I sure wish Gerjan van Oosten would reprint The Ultimate Asahi Pentax Screw Mount Guide 1952 - 1977 .)
Anyway, it's been great fun learning. The only problem is, I now have a whole new era of bodies and lenses to stoke my CBA & LBA. And now -of course- I have to find matching caps, hoods, etc. (Accessory Buying Addiction?).
It never ends!
