I just got a sigma 17-35mm for a 130 bucks at adorama...why did i get this lens even though I have plenty of options at that range. Its the 82mm f2.8-4 version. I figure an autofocusing 17 f2.8 for 130 bucks is worth it even if i never use any of the other parts of the range.

300 mm prime lens

I got a 300 mm prime lens as an extra on a $37.00 ebay purchase of a Pentax P3 camera, as well as another copy of the Pentax-A 50 mm f 1:2.0. The 300 mm lens is described as follows:

BRAND: Miida Automatic
FOCAL LENGTH: 300 mm prime
F STOP: 4.5 - 22
MOUNT: screw mount (KR). The usual screw mount to K-mount adapters work to attach to K-mount digital camer adapters make it fit K-mount cameras.
FILTER SIZE: 67 mm
WEIGHT: 3 lbs, 3 oz.
CONSTRUCTION: heavy duty precision-like construction, appears to be mostly metal.
OTHER WRITING ON LENS: No. 7813587; KR (on back cap)
COUNTRY OF MANUFACTURE: Japan
FEATURES: Built-in hood (slides in and out like the hood on the 77 limited), tripod bracket
OTHER FEATURES: switch near mount, switches from A to M, presumably standing for automatic and manual, but unclear what the switch controls.
CONDITION: like new, no scratches, no dust, Appears to have never been used.

I will appreciate any information anyone can offer on this particular lens or the Miida brand. The site seems to be acting up today, and unfortunately refuses to accept the photo I have tried to post, perhaps later.

Thank you.

Careful with a KR mount. There might be a ricoh pin that will catch on your pentax and it will be stuck on your camera. Look up ricoh pin removal. Its really easy, old manual lenses have very few parts at the mount area.

Yes, I am quite aware of the problem, having once had a lens stuck on my K-7, and will not try to mount this lens on K-mount without pin removal. The pin does in fact stick up far enough that it is a hazard even with the screw mount to K-mount adapter in place. Thank you for the cautionary note.

From this thread on Mf lenses : http://forum.mflenses.com/milda-200mm-f3-5-t58938.html

Miida is a brand of Marubeni which is a general trading companies in Japan. Their lenses are re-branded from third party lens maker.

Miida (A contraction of Marubeni Iida) imported lenses into the US during the 1970s. They are from a family of lenses that can be found under the Miida, Hanimex/Hanimar, Tamron F System, Chinon and several other names that don't come to mind. The defining charactersitic is that they follow the Nikon - Pentax focus direction, rotating counter-clockwise to closeup.

You have to show the photos of a specific lens for us to guess the maker.

Tuesday I got a like-new Canon 100L 2.8 Macro, and 5 little plastic battery boxes to keep spares organized.

Today I got a new Ruggard Outrigger 65 backpack. I've never been a backpack guy, but I had a hard time organizing my growing Canon collection of stuff in my Tamrac Pro 8 shoulder bag which was getting heavy on just one shoulder. Price seemed right ($49.99) and even better, I think it will work out for the "bring everything" outing (which likely is most). Just enough expansion room for the future - or lunch.

Not one, but two showed up cheap at the thrift store with cases ... never seen a Gevaert "Gevalux 144" before.

Exakt VX looks so great and seems to be as quirky and reliable (not!) as my Voigtländer's from the same era. Gotta love these odd beings!

Way back in the dark ages when I was starting out with SLR (my old original Pentax) the Exacta was the gold ring to catch. They were the epitome of SLRs back then.

I got a SmartTop module to make the folding metal roof in my wife's car better. It just plugs right in to the car's wiring harness like a computer part. I just had to get access to the right spot in the wiring harness, behind the passenger seat. I just had to remove the 24 big screws in this photo and it's right there.

I'm amazed that people actually do this sort of thing.
