I just ordered a used Canon 50mm f/1.8 STM lens, something I've been on the look-out for since I got a couple of film EOS cameras a few months ago.

I'm very much looking forward to having a fast fifty to use on film cameras that have good AF - none of my Pentaxes can cut it I'm afraid.

I bought that same lens a little while ago to use with my EOS 5, after an ill-advised dabble with a Yongnuo 50mm f/1.8 (which drained the battery while the camera was switched OFF !!). Lovely little lens, focuses accurately, quickly and quietly

Pentax camera are good, but the Canon one's are really ahead when it comes to AF. It's a real pleasure to use those new lenses !

Just bought my first Pentax prime lens. Actually I bought two in a deal. A DA35 2.8 Macro ltd and a DA 50 1.8 "plastic fantastic" for $450AUD. Both in pristine condition.

Two communist lenses and capitalist UV filters to accompany them.

I looked at the Yongnuo options (they also make a 35/2) but I decided against even the Canon version because there were too many stories of them just falling apart in people's hands. A workmate of mine recently bought the Yongnuo 50, I might have to get him to bring it to the office so we can compare

I like my old, chunky SFXn and it's AF seems OK but it's really, really noisy with my FA 50/1.7. The same lens is pretty quiet on my other AF cameras. AF on even the cheapie EOS 300 (which competed with the Pentax MZ-5N) is much snappier.

Congratulations - the DA 35mm is absolutely wonderful in every way. The DA 50/1.8 is reputed to be very good too.

Kodak Retina IIa

Link: https://www.cameraquest.com/retIIa.htm

The Retina IIa is an amazing camera, quite a clever design. It reeks quality, as is typical of German cameras of the 1950's.
With the lens retracted it is almost as compact as a Minox 35 or Olympus XA series, but weighs probably ten times as much.

Except the copy I bought had its stop-down pin removed by the seller so I can use it on a non-flanged adapter (M42-PK)

I received two of those zebra Tessars 50 2.8 in a kit with a Spotmatic II. Both were jammed up with dried lubricant and attempted to unscrew themselves from the adapter when focussing on the camera. It is possible to hold the aperture switch down with a spare finger to take the image with a stopped down aperture. Gave one copy away and sold the other.

Because of my limited skill in fixing lenses, I almost only buy lenses that are tested/serviced, even if I have to pay a bit more. So far so good.

Just pulled the plug on the DA 100MM f2.8 Macro, as SRS here in the UK currently have £100 off. No brainer.

Do you mean pulled the trigger? It would be a shame to pull the plug on it before you've even tried it
