Downsizing everything in my life I bought 2 burner grill to replace old and rusty 4 burner, and a cover for new grill. Amazon promised two days delivery for both items, but after I paid, I discovered that only the cover will arrive today, not the grill.

So the cover arrived, and I feel like a kid who got just a wrap, but not candy.
Shame on you, Amazon.

My treachery has reached another level...

Two more (nFD 300/5.6 & nFD 35/2) are on their way.

How do Canon FD lenses compare to the Pentax K and M series? I've always been curious about FD lenses.

Canon either consider them rubbish - no need to support, or so good they are a threat to their current range.

I just got done with a little controlled shootout between my normal lenses (Minolta MC 50/1.4 & 58/1.2, Canon nFD 50/1.4), the only Pentax 50(ish) I have is the M50/1.7 and I didn't even bother including it.

I just took a few extra snaps with the FD50/1.4 and the M50/1.7 (100% center crops, no PP except for white balance and a bit of sharpening - identical for all shots of course):

nFD50/1.4 @f/1.4 | M50/1.7 @f/1.7:

nFD50/1.4 @f/2.8 | M50/1.7 @f/2.8:

I can't speak from personal experience (yet) but from what I've read, there are a number of very good performers in the FD lineup, especially the manual "L" glass and the earlier S.S.C. "Aspherical" lenses.
Quite a few are said to be better than any of their AF successors (e.g. the FD85/1.2 "Aspherical" & nFD85/1.2L).

And don't forget the "Nord Territorium"

And not to make it all about me.

But I'm so happy I have a nice set of glass for my K5 now. The 50-135 is the latest to join. Now, that weekend to go play with them MMMMM yeah!

i've just ordered it. I will see when it arrives. I do have a few days warranty if anything goes wrong, i can send it back.

I'm pretty confident, the pictures of the lens seems to show that the lens was barely used (the rubber are super clean, and not used at all).
Aurele - if it is mostly unused, charge up your camera, mount the lens and turn the camera on for 10 minutes or more before you try to use the AF. This will charge up the internal capacitor that is in the AF module. I bought mine in 2007, and it is still working. I do this every month or so, and used it for Pentax Day with no problems. I had not done this for over a month, and the first focus was sluggish, but it came around just fine. I turned the camera on when first getting out of the vehicle. It has never been a fast focusing lens, but the rendering is something else - definitely the Pentax look to the images. It is good enough that even if SDM fails, I will keep it.

totally unrelated to anything camera-related... but I finally replaced the ancient Apple Pro keyboard that I've been using since 2002 (2003?):

If the AF is as fast as it is on the DA*55, this is fast enougt.

If the rendering is in the same as the DA*55 i will be so happy.

I'm pretty confident i will like the lens. I will convert it if necessary, but i don't think i'll need it too.

By switching from the K-x to K5ii i've realised how much the body is responsible for the AF speed. My DA*55 is really faster than before since i switched.

Another treasonous purchase just arrived:

Canon nFD 300mm f/5.6 IF

I did a quick comparison to my Minolta MD 300/4.5... I don't think that one will see much use anymore.

Left: center, Right: edge

Minolta 300mm - f/4.5

Canon 300mm - f/5.6

Minolta 300mm - f/5.6

Canon 300mm - f/8

Minolta 300mm - f/8

Full comparison
