So, here are the two new acquisitions... they are both in very good shape. The Pentax-M 28 3.5 shows light use and I think I can see some very small drops of oil in the internal elements, but hardly any dust. I don't think it will have an effect on pictures. The Tokina 24 2.8 doesn't show hardly any use at all. Looking against the light, I can't hardly find any dust... I *think* I found a tiny bit of dust in one side... which, considering how little I paid for this lens, is totally surprising!

I received my newest acquisition today, a like new SMC Pentax-DA 40mm F2.8 XS complete with press on lens cover and rear cap from a forum member.

he treated me right and I maintained my record of not paying the initial prices. I beat him down and saved 50 cents. [ don't tell him but I would have settled for 25 cents off. ]

20 minutes after receiving it, I was at the Topeka Zoological Park trying it out, here are some of the results all shot through glass windows of the enclosures.

1 the male Borneo Orangutan

2 one of the three female Sumatran tiger cubs

3 the lions.

Very nice sharp shots especially through glass. #2 especially maintained good contrast and vibrance.

I have it on good authority the seller of this lens started the selling price $1 higher than he would have accepted , but he said the buyer is a super nice guy and he's happy the lens will be used and loved.

Ahem.

on my end, my recent acquisition is awaiting the purchase of a fresh box of cookies, but it is a Tamron Adapatall-2 44A (28-70mm f3.5), along with an NOS hood for the 44A....

This is true, though I would hazard a guess that they are currently 5 biscuits in length...

Thanks to cqua77, I finally got my hands on a Voigtlander 58mm f1.4 and I got the last of the components(HDD Caddy for the optical drive) for my Toughbook overhaul. I hope to have the Toughbook finished tonight with Ubuntu and Darktable loaded. Tomorrow I can start learning how to use Darktable and start taking advantage of my setup. I also have a FA 43mm f1.9 Limited on the way as well. It was an impulse buy, but another lens I've wanted for a while.

The other day I found online an old lens being sold for €10 as a Hanimex 2x Auto Teleconverter, because it had one on the end of it and the sellers hadn't looked any further. Despite not being able to see the brand, the mount or the lens name, I identified it as a Vivitar Series 1 28-90mm f/2.8-3.5. I picked it up yesterday and it's in stellar shape except for the typical slow aperture. I have been looking for instructions on how to open it up and fix that but so far haven't found anything so if anyone has any links that would be very helpful. I'm quite wary of delving so deep into a lens, especially a zoom. I've never tackled an aperture before but I would like to be able to use this lens on my K3 and especially on my film cameras.

Can anyone offer any advice?

A lovely old Leitz made Tiltall tripod. Awesome piece of gear. I got it for one of my sons. He recently purchased some 25x100 astronomical binoculars and needed a sturdy base. We are heading out to Yellowstone in a few weeks and it just may come in handy there too. We plan on doing more sitting and watching than sightseeing. I'm getting another one for me if I come across one at a good price.
