While on the subject of PETVs. My wife and I just took delivery of this one. Too big to use SMU's on this one. Mitsubishi Triton GLS (L300) Phone pic sorry

More a hay wagon than a photographic support device up to this point. Horse on left is gelding 'Ted' and the grey is stallion 'Metric'.

And this is their other friend possum an adolescent Colt. Are we off topic enough yet?

Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day.

Teach a man to fish, and he will eat for a lifetime.

I often wonder why people think that

I seldom bank fish but even sitting there with a cup of coffee in one hand and hope in the other I see amazing things
off and on I've carried a camera to capture those moments

most often I fly fish either on stream or stillwater

I've been face to face with bears and skunks
shared the pond with herons and fished the margins together
had bats crawl up my pant leg (to suck my blood?)
seen hookers ply their trade in parking lots
addicts trying to cadge or steal a buck or two
watched geese herd their goslings to safety
eagles grab dinner
seen sunsets and sunrises that defy description
sometimes I've even caught a fish or a turtle...once a muskrat took a bass popper (good thing I use barbless hooks)

how could a person be bored?

Teach a man to fish, and he will be back in two days bragging about the size of the fish he caught and asking to borrow your best rod and reel.

New hood for 645 lens,

I got a great big honking original hood from a Japanese eBayer for my Pentax-A 645 120mm f 4.0 macro lens. I was experiencing flare from this lens until I used matte paint to coat the inside of my 645-K-mount adapter, and now this great big hood solves all the flare problems.

Teach a man to fish, and pray he has better luck than I lest before he catches even one, he dies of starvation.

as a kid, I went fishing with an uncle and my cousins, they were really into fishing and were good at it.

primarily when I was with them, we were bank fishing and I wasn't good and wasn't given any hints or help

their attention was on what they were doing, not in teaching

so my personal feelings about fishing isn't great

you did note that I put a " "

with my remark, didn't you

sure
it was merely an observation
this kind of discourse is easy for me
being a borderline sociopath means if we have differing views on an issue you're probably wrong

my oldest boy taught me more than I ever taught him
one of the things I learned was when teaching someone something you suspend your participation until they ask you to quit teaching

so regarding fishing
I left my stuff at home and we took his
he did everything he was able
I refrained from being the ********** I am until he asked for assistance then backed off until he asked again

it worked

he's a much better angler and naturalist than I could ever hope to be
but I showed him that there were those possibilities

that was my job

often if you pry you will find that the reason someone truly doesn't enjoy an activity is that someone made it not fun for them

well remember it is ok to argue with yourself

as long as you win

BTW

you like my younger brothers are wrong

I'm always correct

in some small way at least

The K3 II has turned up today, and is pristine, with the claimed shutter count of 297 (now 298) being correct. That's as new as a used camera gets really. More than happy with that. The K3 will now have my Macro lens as a permanent attachment.

On things seen while fishing - and Priorities:

Some years ago I was standing ankle deep on a gravel base, roll casting wets with two droppers to the edge of the drop off into a hole, sheltered behind an overhanging limb. This was a favorite, prime spot to draw large browns. Just downstream, behind the limb, some camping novice had pulled a canoe up on the associated gravel bar and pitched a tent. Shortly, a young woman emerged from the tent au natural, splashed around in the stream a bit, turned toward me, shrieked and ran back to the tent.

Ruined the fishing for an hour.

Doubt it was the highlight of her day either
