re steel capped boots - I got into the habit of wearing them when I was a lab technician, though it was more for the chemical resistant soles than the toe caps. Since I never actually dropped a gas cylinder on my foot, the most likely accident from what I was doing, I never got to evaluate the toe caps there.

Except that I wore them travelling to and from work by motorbike. And one day I was stuck in heavy traffic, and put my feet down because the bike wasn't going to be going anywhere. At which point the car to my left decided to reverse out and managed to drive over my foot before I realised what was happening. And I'm pretty sure I can thank the boots on that foot for the fact that I was annoyed rather spending a few months with my foot in a plaster cast...

Today's acquisition wasn't exactly a new item - I was looking through my junk box for something and suddenly realised that what I'd thought was an incomplete set of extension tubes was in fact an M42 to Konica AR adapter, which turns it from being a waste of space to something I can sell. Not a lot of money involved, but satisfying.

As usual As is tradition, I've been 'coordinating' the ticket acquisition for the coming season at the Elbphilharmonie for friends & family.
This is my share (some of which might still be redistributed):
EDIT: Got lucky, added 10 more tickets.

(I hope you'll forgive me for not bothering to translate)

I couldn't get my hands on my absolute favourites* this season but I'm quite happy overall
(And I realise that - as far as access to and affordability of this type of event are concerned - I live in one of the most privileged parts of the world).
At ~30€ per ticket on average, it's fairly affordable (and the 'cheap seats' tend to be quite good in modern Vineyard Style concert halls)

*In case anyone cares, these 3 were the on top of my 'priority list':
Mon, 21 Jan 2019 - Munich Philharmonic / Valery Gergiev - Elbphilharmonie
Sun, 17 Feb 2019 - Berlin Philharmonic / Yannick Nézet-Séguin - Elbphilharmonie
Wed, 30 Jan 2019 - Philharmonia Orchestra London / Paavo Järvi - Elbphilharmonie

I got a brand new copy of Henry Horenstein's Black & White Photography.

I like to have copies of this excellent book for beginning film photographers
available to give away in order to propagandize to impressionable youth.

While the intent is bigly commendable, please do make sure you're not inadvertently spreading any FAKE NEWS ART.

EDIT:

For some reason, some of my favourites that weren't available at the booking office (where I stood in line for ~4h) at ~11:00 were available for online booking (which started at 18:00).
The site was completely overloaded but I managed to get these through (all between 12€ & 36€ per seat and all in my favourite block in the hall - outside the highest price category anyway):

Mon, 21 Jan 2019 - Munich Philharmonic / Valery Gergiev - Elbphilharmonie
Wed, 30 Jan 2019 - Philharmonia Orchestra London / Paavo Järvi - Elbphilharmonie

My complete inventory now looks like this:

In retrospect, I might have overdone it a bit...

Hi Boris
You'll have to ( cough cough ) record them for extra enjoyment.

I just picked up a Chinon CP-7m with Chinon 50/1.9

A plain K-mount camera that can use program mode with pre-A series lenses.

My trI-ennial internal surveillance inspection.

I’m now half-way to my annual deductible. Like many older adults, my calendar seems increasingly governed by Dr. appointments.

Minolta Goodwill find

Just picked up like-new Minolta Maxxum 5 film camera with 28-80 kit lens with instructions and like new small Case Logic carrying case, total price $6.50. Cannot imagine why I bought it unless to re-sell on eBay.

There are good recordings of all those works out there and I don't expect to witness any history concerts.
Plus, the personnel in the hall always keep a watchful eye on the higher ranks because anything dropped over the railing there can disrupt the performance and possibly smash someones head in (depending on the weight) in the lower ranks.

I'll leave the recording to the professionals...

Gergiev (with the Vienna Philharmonic, at the Salzburg Festival):

Paavo Järvi & Hilary Hahn:

...that second video (the Rimsky-Korsakov one) must be the most watched Sheherazade on YouTube! I lost count of how many times I listened to that. A fine performance.
