But all will serve as good options. The 18-135 is a special lens in that it has a large range and not a lot of compromises from about 18-70 and then above 70 it has some falloff on the corners but most telephoto shots can stand that loss easily.
I completely agree regarding the 18-135mm, it is something to aspire to but you are probably looking at $150-200. Another one to aim for that is in the same price range is the smc da 55-300mm wr, another brilliant lens that comes in at a reasonable price. I have the DA-l version and it isnt weather resistant and doesnt have a manual focus ring. The 50-200mm is quite good but not as stellar as the above, but it is below $100, the 18-50mm is said to be a good kit lens and is similarly priced to the 50-200mm. The 18-55mm is the bargain basement lens, you should get a wr for less than $50. Make sure you get the one with the green band. I think the da-l is weatherproof but the green band version has a better build and manual focus. The 18-55mm is a bit noisy and slow but it can produce superb results. I still have mine and use it from time to time despite having better kit

I had to google some images but I'm pretty sure the DAL lenses all have manual focus rings. They have plastic mounts and no quick-shift but they do have manual focus rings.

For WR kit lenses go for the DA WR 18-55 which performs acceptably though it's soft at the long end below f/8.

I bought the 16-85 over the 18-135 as a better WR option and so far I'm pretty happy with it, though I haven't tried the 18-135 and the price difference is considerable. I prefer IQ over range.

Hi Ivan

What you didn't buy a box of them ?
Or is it you don't like white ?

Dave
Only five left in my size, so I bought them out. Big stack of black ones too, so I bought them out too, a full dozen. When I see a good deal like that, I hammer it.

if you are willing to go for " experienced " equipment

put it on your private watch list or on the forum's wanted list, your choice

and regularly check the market place

you never know -

I found my " experienced " but like new HD Pentax-D FA* 70-200mm F2.8 ED DC AW

at a price I still haven't seen matched

don't be tardy though, 42 members contacted the seller on that one after I replied.

I replied less than 15 minutes after it had been posted.

My da-l 55-300mm doesn't have a manual focus capability. The ring is there but it doesn't turn

Have you turned off autofocus on the body? It should be locked while af is on since it lacks quick shift.

Ooh, I am going to have to test that! Looks like I am mixing up auto focus and quick shift. I assumed it didnt so I didn't try. Test time

When looking for a 24mm lens I manage to do a double hit.

K 24 f/2.8.

Window test using the LR lens profile for the Takumar 28mm.
