This is my first SDM lens. When I first tested it out, I thought the AF wasn't working, it was so quiet compared to what I'm used to!
I had that experience when I got my DA* 200. This was before I started hanging out here and I hadn't really paid attention to what SDM was all about. When I realized it was working, I thought this is magic!

Anyway, lately I've stopped buying lenses (more or less) and now I have FBA instead. Flashes, things to put on the flashes, things to put the flashes on...

Consider yourself fortunate - I've been lusting over the *55 1.4 for some time. A lens at this price takes me a while to save up for plus my terrible self-justification process.

I took it out for a spin today, and found 75% of my images mis-focused. After an hour of focus testing inside, and adjusting the micro-adjustment as far as it would go, it still back focused.

Sent it back, and was so frustrated by all this, that I don't want another one. It's a shame - the colors the lens rendered were just beautiful.

Enjoy your lens!
Sorry you had that experience. I know that must be frustrating. I do consider myself lucky, especially being an eBay transaction. Maybe you can try it again sometime. I do love the lens already. It's really outstanding!

About this DA*55/1,4 , I think i'm going to click on "purchase" at the end of the week, when i'll get my paycheck.

In fact i gain much more money than i first thought, i really want a 50/1,4 prime, and the *55 is no more "out of reach" . Plus i really dislike the sound of the AF of the FA 50 .

I'm not really affraid of the SDM syndrome. I'm much more affraid of dust and sand (which are present 90% of the time when i do outdoor shooting). My next big purchases will be probably the 16-50 and K5 (even if i think the 16-50 is really overpriced.)
Yay! Hope you have good luck with it. And enjoy!

For me gotta be, greatest gadjet of the year, Wacom intuos 4, large. Wow what a difference this thing makes, I am in no way endorsing wacom, I guess a tablet is a tablet at face value, if one just wants a pen and some control better then a mouse, I just wanted the extras on side panel and pens for control.

Got a PK-M4/3 adapter for the GF2.

Makes for a MUCH wider range of lenses available for the little thing.

I'm quite confident about my future new lens : the shop is very professional (they open the box, and "stamped" the warranty before sending item. So no need to call them back for whatever. If you need to use the warranty they do it for you : they send back another item, you send yours to them and that's it, they care about the rest.), and they only got limited stock so all item have was built in the last 6 months, so will see if Pentax still has some QC and SDM issues

My latest acquisition is the growing 645N family! When I got into MF I promised myself I would not succumb to LBA, but old habits die hard.

But what is the new arrival? The 35mm? Or the lens sporting that huge hood?

Order clarification for 645N system acquisition

Good question, here is the order:

55 F2.8
200 F4
645-K adapter (not in pic)
45-85
35 F3.5
Extension rings
150 F2.8 (On the way!)

An old version of the tamron 35-70/2.8 (the one before the 01a). Initial tests in the office look good but am a bit flummoxed about the distance required for focusing and the macro setting. I only got this for the pk mount as I already own a 01a.

bying lens you don't really need because you have the latter model, mean you are in very big trouble with LBA.

You are "irrecoverable" about LBA...

150 is a great FL on 645, that 2.8 should be like shooting a 90 1.7 on 35mm a great portrait lens (My Bronnie is a little slower at 3.5 - more like f2 but sharp even wide open

Thank you eddie for weighing in on the 150. I am very thrilled about its arrival. Will let you know how it works out.
