Yeah, so I have no restraint. For my first real camera I had decided to be smart and just go with a k5 iis even though I really wanted a k3.........then I went on eBay and found a deal I couldn't pass up and I now have a k3 body with everything it came with new and a 1400 shutter count on its way to me. All for 650.......hopefully it was a good deal, thankfully the seller has a high reputation and guarantees his items.

The only thing "photography" related that I got for X-mas ... Raymond Depardon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Well, not really.

For some weird reason my French mother-in-law gave cash for X-mas, so I bought this later for 20€ at my local B&M shop. Was eying it for a while ...

Came with a nice "B+W" brand UV filter, too.

F28-80? I wonder if the difference between that and the F35-70 is as big as the reviews will have us believe...

Just found a Metz 58 AF-1 at a fair price. Won't be here until next week, though, with all these public holidays. Not that I'm complaining!

Not as if I really need another flash - but I don't have any P-TTL flash. And the old huuuge Metz 45CT-5 is not something I'm willing to lug around. The auto setting works rather well, though, which is why I wanted the Metz 58. I'm no big fan of the pre-flash thing on x-TTL. Which, of course, makes me wonder why I just bought a P-TTL flash

Curiosity killed this cat, so to speak. I have both now, so I will get back to you on that comparison ...

Heck, it was only 20 with a B+W filter that sells for about that ... J

---------- Post added 12-31-14 at 18:29 ----------

Last thrift store score of 2014 ... all for 10€, as marked on buckle latch of the large hard case.

- a well brassed but working Minolta X-700 with a nice MD 35-70/3.5 including hood & caps ...
- a working Minolta Auto 280 PX flash with case, papers & wide panel diffuser ...
- a Sigma 70-210/4.5 in MD with case, hood, caps & papers ... the filter rim is dented and it's zoom is a bit stiff (nothing's perfect)
- a Minolta SR-T 101 manual in French (which I didn't have in my Minolta collection)... plus other oddity manuals, like for a Braun flash for said SR-T ...

Not a bad way to end the year

Yes, the difference between the 28-80 and 35-70 IS that big. I've owned both and still own and regularly use the 35-70.

My wife saw that I had a K-3 in my basket around Christmas and expected that I purchased it for myself. I didn't as I was of the opinion that I have not plumed the depths of the K-5iis yet. Well, she realized that I had held off (unusual for me ), saw that the prices were set to end 12/31, and ordered the Adorama K-3 + Grip + Flu card for me. I have to add that she got what is in my opinion the best deal available now (the flash for $50 was also a top deal). I'm speechless. It arrived today without my knowing it was coming (and in <24 hours BTW!!) I thought it was the lens case I had ordered until I picked up the box. Wow. Just wow.

P.S. I just ordered the 2-year extended warranty to go with it.

Very happy for you!

I just got a great deal on a 55-300 - the DA-L, but still - listed as 'like new', for $160 CAD. Very excited about it...

So nice to read a "good" wife story on here. She's obviously a keeper, grin. Enjoy!

My First Macro Lens

I just updated this a few days ago and now I am having to update it again. I just purchased a Vivitar MC Macro 55mm f/2.8 macro lens for Canon FD-mount. This is my first macro lens. I am dying for it to get warm outside so I can try this lens out.
