I just received a K series 200mm f/4 I ordered a week ago. It's in fantastic condition and my first tests show it to be sharper and with much less green fringing than the M series version I owned a few years back, though I'll need to try it out more.

I don't use such long telephoto lenses much so I may sell it on at some point but I'll get rid of some of the other long glass I have first. For €24 delivered I can't lose.
The SMCA 200f4 is a well designed and beautifully made lens. I especially like the pull-forward lens hood which Pentax designed into several lenses (35mm macro; 135mm f2.8 FA; 200mm SMCA macro; 400mm SMCA among lens I do or have owned). These are VASTLY more convenient and satisfactory than the ubiquitous reversible bayonet-mount hoods. I can understand the need for that design on a zoom that must have a tulip hood, but not on lenses such as the 100mm f2.8 DA macro or 300mm f4 DA

My Dad and I went to an amateur radio swap-meet today. On one of the flea-market stalls I came across an old non-working Pentax SFX, with a couple of lenses. One is a rather nasty Sigma 70-210 push-pull zoom, but the other is this F28-80 f/3.5-4.5 (which, apparently, was released to go with the SFX - or so I've read). The filter ring has been bashed and damaged at some point, but otherwise the lens is in nice condition. I'm surprised how nice it is optically. I've been playing around with it this evening, and it takes nice photos. For less than the price of a sandwich, I'm happy with it

Nice find. I never see stuff like this. Are you going to try and get the SFX Working?

Thank you I tend not to find much like this either, as a general rule, but it was my turn to be lucky, I guess

I'd love to get the SFX working... It's actually in really nice condition, but the film wind isn't working. I hear the SFX is known for stripping gears... The thing is, it doesn't feel like the mechanism is stripped - it's like it can't get beyond a certain point. Other than that, the LCD info display works, the mirror and shutter curtain look immaculate, and the viewfinder is very clean. I don't want to invest a lot of money in it, but I'll certainly do what I can.

Oh, there was a 2x TC in the bag as well. Not up to much optically, but I may take out the glass and use it as a manual extension ring. And there were 4 rolls of unopened but expired ISO 200 drugstore film. Lomography here I come!

I have an SFXn (not sure what the difference is with the "n" version) and quite enjoy using it. They sell for very little because they're UGLY but in fact are very capable cameras. It's the only film Pentax I have that goes to 1/4000s maximum shutter speed.

I think the 'n' is actually nicer in some way, though I can't recall how. (Maybe a stopdown lever or something.) Camera database here?

Oh, also I'll have a bit of show&tell accrued from some inactive times. SHould post soon.

After owning other charcoal and electric grills with varying results, I got a Weber kettle 22.5 inches. 20 bucks on Craigslist including a cover and some utensils!
This grill is just much better than anything I've ever had... I needed something quick for my birthday last week and lucked out with an awesome grill. No wonder Weber has such a cult following.
Now I'm reading all about slow cooking with it... It's already proven to be fantastic for high temps (I.e. Steaks)...

I might need to find a 26.75" version to do a Thanksgiving turkey...

4 tremendously exciting sorbothane pads so that I can make my new stacking hobby table vibration proof. Had 2 cheeseboards and 2 magic arms arrive last week and once the other 2 cheeseboards arrive I should have a nice little stacking area on the corner of my little macro studio room
