my latest acquisition is a name tag, with a shirt following, identifying me as one of 50 docents at the Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center - Saving Animals From Extinction.

I just spent this week, from 8 Am to about 4:30 PM Monday through Friday being instructed in the "ins and outs" of being a docent there.

[The program had gone dormant and the first class of docents were trained in the spring of 2017. ]

we have made a commitment to serve the zoo and the zoo visiting public by working at least 50 hours per year and I plan on starting tomorrow with a shift at the Orangutan exhibit.

we are officially members of the zoo staff, and must follow the rules and regulations of the city employees and the zoo.

We have been unofficially promised regular raises ( multiples of the $0.00 per hour we currently get )

wish me luck

Congratulations and respect, Allen - that's a noble cause.

Good luck!

~536€ (rather than the usual ~650€) for the New Sony FE 85/1.8 seemed like a good deal, It'll be the first AF lens on my A7.

MF works fine for most things but I wanted at least one AF lens and this one seems to make the most sense. Manual focus with my Samyang 85/1.4 and Canon FD 100/2 was a bit of a pain...

New 67 lens

Arrived just today--Pentax 67 200mm lens. It's a nice sharp lens from the land where they treat photographic equipment like jewelry, and good for flowers and torso to head portraiture. It seems pretty sharp over longer distances, and might be useful if I go crazy and start chasing birds in my old age.

Nothing glamorous on my side, just a Hama M42 to K mount adapter. Not that I really needed it, I already have a genuine Pentax one, bought decades ago. I bought this one purely because it comes with a little spanner to remove it from the camera body. This will prevent wear and tear on my finger nails.

Please let us know how well it works. Were the Hoya a poor fit for Pentax the irony might be unbearable.

A Freudian slip on my part. It is actually a Hama...

Ok, this is me taking advantage of the moonroof of my newly acquired, used Forester to observe the clouds obscuring the eclipse.

I've never had a car with a sun/moon roof before--it's just as worthless as I imagined.

In this case I guess it's a cloudroof.*

* Nice car though

It is. I miss the smaller size and volvo-esque styling of the 2003 I traded in but I had just lost confidence it was going to get me back from my excursions into the hinterlands.

CZ Ultron 50/1.8 M42

Falling undèr the general lens porn and preservation of a classic category, I've acquired a Carl Zeiss Ultron 1.8/50 version 2, the legendary bokeh normal with the concave (negative curvature) front element. It is on its way to dcshooter for a CLA and some minor repairs (free a glued down pin, re-click the aperture ring and A/M switch) so it will operate as assembled, but leaving the patina on the barrel intact.

First look - astonishingly sharp lens.
