if that lens has the AF contained with in the lens itself ???

I have a Vivitar Series 1 200mm lens that mimic it.

it was powered by 3 AAA batteries in the base

the Vivitar has been provided to a newbie to the forum along with Vivitar Series 1 28-105mm and 70 - 210 ( 3rd ver ) manual focus lenses

To my knowledge, there's a few of those in-lens autofocus lenses. The one I have is a Tamron Adaptal SP lens (AF Zoom 47A), which is perhaps more notable because it brings autofocus to several mounts that were abandoned when autofocus became mainstream. (Minolta SR/MC/MD, Canon FD, M42, etc)

Not that any of the in-lens autofocus systems work very well.

compared to AF now you are correct

for someone who didn't have an autofocus SLR, it worked

and the glass in the 200mm Vivitar Series 1 was/is nice

I think there were two or three around the same time - Canon did one for the FD mount which was a rather lumpy looking thing - but the Pentax one was first.

Canon FD 35-70mm f4 Autofocus lens

Saw two Vivitar 35-70 3.5-4.8 with the battery powered autofocus on Ebay right now. Talk about a load of weight for a short zoom.

Waiting for my FA 77......Darn holidays! That and I am not a fan of FedEx, They were supposed to get it to me today but.... They have often disappointed me even without holidays or bad weather.

Very much like the one Jean showed. AF was in the lens, I think it might have been IR beams, or something like that.

It was back in the days of the M series cameras, and the styling of the lens was like M series lenses, with the big extra apparatus. It was something that could be bought by any existing camera owner of the period.

Ricoh made an AF 50mm f/2 lens. I know a place which I think still has them as new old stock.

The ME-F body had the distance detector in the camera with the matching lens, if I recall correctly.

Was Polaroid's sonar distance-sensor ever used for anyone else's lenses?

Also on the AF front, today's bargain (I hope) is a Cosina 100-300mm in Canon AF fitting for £14.99 - should receive it next week. Fingers crossed it's OK, since it's for my own use if I like it.

Alas not Pentax related, but I am starting to really need a longer zoom than 450, and the 600 F4 is way out of my current price range, and so I have pulled the trigger on a Nikon d7500 (the Mrs has one) and a Tamron 150-600 G2, which comes with a dedicated 1.4 teleconverter. That's nigh on 1200mm equivalent.with the crop factor. It will need good light, that TC, but I'll be interested to see the results. I've seen some on websites, they are sharp.
Got some good deals in the Black Friday run down, so there it is. May sell the K3 II, 150-450 and TC, MAY! Lets see if I can get away with keeping it. Depends on SWMBO

Well, let's just say that sometimes I take care of my own X-mas shopping ... A haul from a single vendor on the French "Le Bon Coin" site ...

For about 79€, the below Tamron AD-2 gear : A very nice SP 90/2.5 (52B) with PK/A adapter along with a SP 1.4x TC (140F)

For about 60€, an excellent Jupiter 9 (85/2) with a cheap adapter ... quite happy here because I have been looking for one for a while ...

For about 42€, a M 35/2.8 (which I really bought for a Pentax buddy) ... dented filter thread and average cosmetics ... how well

And the best (maybe) for under 9€, a Vivitar (Komine) 35/1.9 with a cheap adapter ... and the Tamron TC was throw in with something, but who cares ... I forget.

Santa still has another package coming to me and after that maybe I will cool my jets a bit ...

XR Rikenon 135/2.8 lens

I have read mixed reviews of this model.
Time will tell if it's worth the twenty dollars I paid.
