Gosh, that's in beautiful condition. Impressive bit of glass... and rare!

I snoozed and lost - but to be fair my budget was blown on the DA*300mm I picked up on Sunday. I would like a newer macro but I was looking at the 100mm. I played with the 50mm in and out of a shopping cart and in the end the decision was made for me. I look forward to seeing what you do with it.

I'm afraid it's just too pretty not to cross-post to the gear p0rn thread.
That is one gorgeous lens. I owned one for a few years when I was in Chicago using my MZ-S. The shift doesn't seem to make as much difference on mountain trees as it did on skyscrapers ... It went with a bunch of other stuff when I bought a K-10D + DA 12-24 + grip + DA* 50-135 + DA* 16-50 in 2007.

__________

Question-how icy was it in Topeka yesterday

Answer:

I parked my Suburban in my gently sloping ice covered drive way

Frozen rain last night and it was continuing at the time

An hour or two later I looked out and saw that the Suburban had slid halfway into the street

My latest acquisition is a pre-owned large Wacom Intuos 4 tablet. It was rather larger than I had anticipated! But what a joy to use - so much better than the tiny Bamboo I had previously. Those programmable buttons along the edge are very nice to have.

Like this one (not my picture).

I have a Wacom Intuos, quite large, and older. I got it back when WinBlows XP first came out.

From a trade for some other equipment. A Tamron Adaptall QZ-210M (85-210mm f4.5).

Also received a Takumar Bayonet 135/2.5, which is much more colorful than the SMC equivalent

Nice! the newer intuos tablets don't have the user programmable LCDs next to the function buttons, which IMO is a bit of a design blooper from wacom.

I still have my Intuos 4 I initially reviewed on here. It has done a lot of work.

And my latest acquisition:

A new pair of Hybrid In Ear Monitors - the Oriveti Primacy MkII

2 balanced armatures. 1 for the High end, 1 for Mid frequencies and one 8.8mm dynamic driver for Bass - I have either had pure dynamic driver headphones or pure BA IEMs, this is the first time I have ever bought an IEM with both driver types in it*. I got them online on sale for about $270AUD, which is a loss I could easily afford.

Historically, low-end cheap and Mid-Fi IEMS like these have been horribly marred by disastrous crossover issues, long term problems with the reliability of the cable connections - however as other reviewers and I have discovered, these suffer from none of these problems: which is remarkable considering the price point. I have no regrets getting them, they have more "kick" to them than pure BA IEMS due to the fact that the dynamic driver can move more air than any armature can alone. They have clearer vocals and improved high end** due to the use of a BA drivers. Most BA IEMs have multiple armatures dedicated to bass frequencies*** to make up for this shortcoming, so the Oriveti Primacy can equal IEMS that cost many times more.

The braided MMCX cable is a thing of beauty, and it can be swapped out with other MMCX cables which means I don't have to throw them away if the cable breaks.

* I have reviewed the Campfire audio Polaris IEM - which are similar to these albeit considerably more expensive and sonically less compelling.
** Though on these IEMs the extreme high end is somewhat subdued - which is better than having a searingly bright high-end IMO.
*** The upshot of this is that using multiple drivers lowers distortion, the drawback: is that doing this drives the impedance of the IEMs through the roof. The Oriveti Primacy are 8.7 Ohm, which puts them on the sensitive side. You won't need much amp power to get decent volume out of them.
