Originally posted by Marcus Rowland Something weird about the Opteka 19-35 I mentioned in a previous post; I always think of Opteka as selling relatively cheap lowest common denominator crap, but I went looking for reviews and am now fairly sure that it's identical to the Vivitar Series 1 and Cosina 19-35mm AF zooms. Same design down to the huge AF on the barrel, same ridiculously large filter, etc. etc. So now I'm wondering who actually makes them, and why Opteka are marketing a lens that seems to be aimed primarily at the 35mm niche. Anyone know?
99% sure it's Cosina.
If there is a Cosina version, it's Cosina-made.
The only exception are a couple of old fifties, that (very likely) had Tomioka optics and Cosina barrel.
EDIT:
I have already written my answer to Rowland... so I take this chance to update the status of my low cost acquisitions.
Time of low budget, I concentrate on low cost lenses (which could give some positive surprise)
Here are my last findings:
Auto Makinon Multicoated f/3.3 200mm
joins the other two high speed lenses I already have, made by Makina Japan (Porst 1.8/135mm and Weltblick 1.8/35mm)
Auto Revuenon f/1.8 50mm
Tomioka-made
Kawakami Seiki RoLMAX f/3.5 135mm
made by the same company that made Kowanon/Kawanon lenses
Auto Revuenon f/3.5 135mm (with leatherette focusing ring)
very likely Tomioka-made
Soligor Auto f2.5 135mm
probably Sun-made
Sankyo Kohki Komura f/3.5 200mm
fortunately it cleaned up nicely
cheers
