Probationary Membership

I feel that it's probably time to welcome a new "Lady" to the Harem... named now as my "Retro Lady" (SMC Pentax-M 40mm F2.8), albeit on a probationary basis initially... some shots this morning from the "Lost Garden" here on the Kerrowdown Estate, has for me finally confirmed her place amongst the others.

Hungarian? Would that be about one of the only ones? Related to Finnish (Sami?), I believe...but not an amalgam as such? To be fair, maybe ‘modern’ Hungarian uses a much broader range of ‘borrowed’ words...I have no idea...

Yes, James IV of Scotland.

Good start. see if you can pick up an auto yashinon/auto chinon 55mm f1.4 or 1.7 or an auto mamiya sekor 50mm f1.8. All Tomiokas and the 1.7. & 1.8 are so sharp you cut yourself when you use them. Also, they can be got for $10-20. Are you using the auto/manual switch for focusing? And have you got a flanged m42 infinity adapter in case you need your button pushed in? If you want a cheap source, look at buying camera kits on eBay rather than lenses. You get some great isco Göttingen and e Ludwig lenses on edixas, practika cameras have DDR Zeiss, pentacons and Helios 44s (you need one of those) and you can get the lenses listed above, with a camera body, often for far less than buying the lens separate. Don't forget looking at old asahi cameras, cos we all know what they come with you won't need many SMU's per lens, but they are so cheap, you will be doing a lot of measuring

I bought three SanDisk 16G SD cards for about $7 each. They are the full sized versions, not the silly little ones that are meant for phones and require an adapter for a camera. It is also heartening to see that the stupid, stupid, stupid, what were they thinking write protect switch is not around anymore.

The lady at the store pointed out that the things will only work in cameras. That's just fine by me, I replied.

Oh yes, I also got a new laptop bag that came with a free power bank (at the same store). It might be useful for charging my Samsung NX1.

Well, having just moaned about the high cost of the Sony Cybershot DSC V3 I wanted for infra-red work one turned up on ebay this week and I got it for £35 inc P&P, which is a lot less than I expected to pay. And I'll be able to recoup some of it by selling the DSC V1 I've been using. It turns out to use CF cards, not Sony memory sticks, which is annoying since I don't have any spares - but I'd need to include a card with the old camera anyway. It takes a different lens adapter tube for filters, but I think I can do it cheaply with a stepping ring and the existing tube.

I think I'll start moaning about the high price of some of the other cameras and lenses I lust after, you never know your luck...

later - sorry, it can use CF cards (but CF 1 only) or memory sticks - unfortunately this still leaves me needing to buy one or the other.

A little accessory that I'm sure any owner of the Pentax-A 2.8/20mm would like to have.
Can't understand why it was sold as a separate accessory!

MH-RB 67mm

I don't have the 20mm with me, but when I saw it at a decent price I asked the vendor if for the same price he could just throw it in a cushioned envelope, and send it as letter.
He accepted. Now I just hope the protection would be enough and that it won't get crushed on its journey from one continent to another...

Recent "boot sale" find from a few weekends ago ... yes, behind still in my posting here ...

Initial pricing was 40€ and luckily it had a 1.5V battery so I could test it (almost correctly) ... so, I counter offered 30€ and it was a done deal. I didn't have the heart to do a "low-ball" offer, because the seller was pretty nice and we chatted it up a bit, etc. Plus I was really happy to have a very nice case ...

Needs new seals, but I have an extra set, so good there ... works well with the 1.5V and here's an example with some FOMA 100 home developed in Caffenol CH ... the second roll though this Canonet QL17. I will install the new seals after I finish the third roll of film in it now ... some FOMA 200 for maybe a different Caffenol recipe.

Got a 21 Ltd in the mail right now, I can't wait to get home and try it. It felt as though the box was empty, but when opened up I found the little thing wrapped up in bubble wrap!
