Received a cheap Cosina 28-210 AF for Canon I bought on line, and took it out for a test today. And it's dreadful, don't think I had a single picture that was sharp out of 100+. Images were blurry, soft, had colour fringing etc. etc. - I'm not going to post images because they're a waste of file space. REALLY disappointed, the last couple of lenses I've had from this seller were much better. I'm requesting a return.

Pentax 35-80 test will probably be tomorrow or Wednesday now.

We certainly see our (un)fair share of them on Highway 3. I remember one constable who was a square dance caller telling us one Friday that he couldn't call that night because he "had to go charge entry fees to Albertans" -- we used to have a bunch of them would try to make it from Calgary to Whitefish Montana in time for the last ski run of the day. They would be bombing past here at 120 (70) on icy roads with cheap all season tires. Some of them never got there. PS: the speed limit was 80 kph (50), so the "fees" were pretty pricey.
Many of the crashes through the canyon to our East and through Roger's Pass to our West are Albertans, who come straight from (reasonably) flat Alberta straight into the deadliest sections of the Trans-Canada Highway.

A lovely Red Kr, an AF 360FGZ flash and a DA 50-200 from Riverscooter here on the forums. Gear arrived in good order and the Kr is a fun little camera! I bought it to give to a pal who wanted an inexpensive camera after he saw my K-50 results, and when I saw this gear at the price asked, I had to jump at it since I wanted a high end Pentax flash also. Since the camera has had very little use <2K images, My pal may have to pry it out of my hands!

FWIW, the K-R is a nice camera, but there was a significant overall "improvement" when I "swapped" that for the K-30 (The ABF issue apart)

I think I'd take the lens over the camera, looks-wise.

What's the difference between the 50/1.8 Series E variants?
Cosmetic, IIRC.

The first version is all black, and the second version added a silver black ring and several extra grams, and looks more like a proper Nikkor.. Both have restricted MFDs, and have substantial plastic parts.

However on my FE2 I'd favor the 50/1.4D AF any day. When it comes to Series E, my two favourites are the 36-72/3.5 and 75-150/3.5. The primes not so much (I've had 50/1.8 and 100/2.8).

My everyday camera is a KP but other than learning how to adjust everything with only a single wheel, it is pretty spiffy and takes very nice images. my DA* 50-135 makes great images with the 12 Megapickle sensor also.

Just be careful under Tungsten lights. Only camera I had problems with dealing with tungsten was my K-r.

Even under my Cree LEDs that I have in my fixtures, It tints to the yellow, so flash is the way to go.

SMU shots are forthcoming; this will have to hold you circus animals for another day or so:

Latest thrift store odds and ends ... for 2€ last week a very nice Canon AE-1 with a new (old) roll of HP5 inside and two Canon FL extension tubes (15mm & 25mm). I guess that it was so cheap since the battery door was missing. I put in a new battery and all works AOK ... the tubes will go great with my FL 55/1.2. That one should be some fun.

Plus an update ... remember that Bronica ETR that I picked up super cheap, but would only fire at one speed (default of 1/500)? Well, before giving up, I posted this problem on the APUG site and I was advised not to use a lithium battery, but rather an alkaline one. Sure enough, it works now ... I would have not thought about this being a possible cause of my problem ... live and learn. A test roll is loaded in it and awaiting a sunny moment to shoot.

Probably a result of the different voltages produced by different battery chemistry. Depends on the exact voltage required to run the circuit. One of the big difficulties in moving from disposable batteries to rechargeable, for the environment (and the convenience of not needing to keep a stock of fresh batteries).

Is the problem the seller or the Cosina?

Is the lens badly designed, or a good lens in bad condition?

I think this Pentacon version is known as the Bokeh Monster. Great find! Looking forward to seeing some pictures taken with it.

It is indeed. We'll see how it renders images, since I have several others that I'd also categorize as 'Bokeh Monsters.' It's good to have options.
