I have one or two long desired lenses that will probably come before Xmas... so I promised myself that I would refrain from acquiring silly stuff that is not really needed.
The problem is that I love vintage lenses, with a soft spot for 135mm's, and that I regret having bought many lenses in "user" state, which means they work (at times with lazy diaphragm and hard/loose focusing ring), but they look bad aesthetically.
When I saw the Isco Regula-Tele-Westanar 3.5/135mm in like new state I could not resist.
Btw, the Regula version is quite rare, unlike the Edixa and "plain" Isco versions.
It won't come cheap shipped to Thailand, but I find it beautiful. Can't wait to try it, although it will probably take a while to receive the parcel.
I have at least another version of the same lens that I will probably sell at the end of the winter, when I will let go all the duplicates and the optics that can't be used on Pentax DSLR cameras.

Here is the beauty. I believe that the optic should be very similar, if not identical, to the Schneider Tele-Xenar:

To my surprise, I found that there is no review of this lens.
I will write one as soon as I have time to properly test it.
If, as I suspect, it's another incarnation of the Schneider Tele-Xenar 3.5/135mm, it should prove a nice performer.
After testing a lot of old 135mm lenses, I found that most of them work quite well.
Even cheap, little known, unappreciated optics can offer nice surprises. For example you expect some fringing, and you find no fringing at all.
28mm and 200mm vintage lenses are usually more "difficult". If it's not fringing, it's lack of contrast, or unsatisfying sharpness.
I guess that one of the reasons I like the 135mm focal so much is that it happens quite often to try one, and be positively surprised by its performance, even if it's a low cost, relatively obscure optic. It's like finding a little precious stone in the mud... it gives plenty of satisfaction!
I used a Schneider tele xenar for last months single in. IT IS INCREDIBLE

OK, I just found a Helios 44-2 and a Jupiter 11a in a charity shop. Both in reasonable condition. I want to give them a fair price, any suggestions?

No, but just think about all the "eye-popping" going on when you tell your friends what you paid for it And the listing does say to make an offer I'd say 10 bucks just to get the ball rolling. Seriously...

Sure; it's not hard really.
Our daughter stopped eating beef in high school, so we did too.
Now she's a vegetarian.

My wife and I still make a hamburger once every week or so,
but we don't miss steak at all.
Neither does our budget, nor our aging choppers...

It was a jibe at me since I posted about my 2 pound 2 inch thick porterhouse steak we had for dinner last week in another thread. I went vegetarian for about two years, then I found out I still loved prime rib and Porterhouse steaks a lot!

You have to remember they came from the USSR, where you had to queue all day to buy SMUs, and after that you were so hungry you had to eat them, thus leaving only a small number for use as SMUs. Therefore they made the lenses to fit the availability of SMUs.

aye... I was surprised that the 44M was even smaller than the 44K-4, but neither are tiny...

by comparison the Super Takumar 55/1.8 sitting on my desk beside them is dainty....

They look as though they will sit flush but my 44-2 has something of a neck. My mir 1b allows light in through the adapter so I use a thin elasticated hair band to seal it. I screw the lens in then pop the band on. I did the same with a 44-2 I was testing this morning. Probably not necessary with the Helios 44M but its worth having a look to see before you venture out. All Helios 44 versions are different this is just the start of a collection BTW, they also come in silver

the 44M is the same size around the barrel as the 44K-4, so both sit flush with no light leakage against the body...

thanks for the tip on the Mir1; it's on my short-list also...
