I screw the lens in then pop the band on. I did the same with a 44-2 I was testing this morning. Probably not necessary with the Helios 44M but its worth having a look to see before you venture out. All Helios 44 versions are different this is just the start of a collection BTW, they also come in silver
I have an old Meyer Optik helioplan 40mm 4.5 that I had a similar issue with. At first I didn't realise that it was a light leak at the adapter, I thought it was my sensor failing until I tried it on my other bodies. I ended up finding a different solution.

Got a SF10 and F35-70 in today. Camera looks to be in great shape but the lens appears to have had the front rotating barrel that holds the front lens group snapped off at the base. The AF and MF do not work but the barrel can be rotated by hand and removed. The glass is clear and all other parts work so its a parts lens if I get an F35-70 that needs clean elements or other parts or I have a lens that needs a mount, etc. Ah well......

aye... I was surprised that the 44M was even smaller than the 44K-4, but neither are tiny...

by comparison the Super Takumar 55/1.8 sitting on my desk beside them is dainty....

I do the same with a number of lenses. Most of those with a tapered/small diameter back need this trick to be used on modern DSLR (Pentax) canera.
Once I posted an example shot with an old triplet, with and without the rubber band. The difference was impressive.
Sometimes it happens that the light leak is not so evident because the mount area is in the shade, though the overall contrast of the image suffers from the extraneous light that gets bounced back and forth.
It has been a while since I started carrying with me a couple of hair ties, together with two M42 adapters (one original, and the other that depresses the auto pin).

LBA struck again

just purchased an " experienced " SMC Pentax-A 50mm F1.4 from a forum member via the Market Place

SMC Pentax-A 50mm F1.4 Reviews - A Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

it will be shipped to me on Monday

appropriate photo with SMU will be posted later

______________________________

decided that since I have accumulated more prime than zoom lenses, I would see if I can accumulate enough primes to weigh the same as the zooms

I would love to see a picture of a balance with zooms against primes.

An SF-1 that was represented as working but has mirror lockup

Manuals for the SF1 (both main and the "Quick Start") plus the Lenses & Accessories catalog from 1/87 and the SMC Pentax-F Interchangeable Lenses catalog from 7/87 along with a 49mm Pentax Skylight filter in pristine shape. Perhaps there is some information in the manual on how to address the mirror lockup with the camera

Hi Allen

You only need another 10 primes and no zooms to be equal

Another useless observation from a NASA nobody
